retractable screen doors

i've seen retractable screen doors that mount either inside the house or outside, but do they have screens that roll away inside between the framing? did a google search and didn't find much about these products installing in new construction. TIA!

My MIL has (or had) one, not something I would own. It wasn't very sturdy and seemed like with daily use would break easily.

They are not installed or purchased yet (so I don't have $$ figures), but we're putting Phantom screen brand retractable screens on the outswing French doors in our LR. We saw them at a home show and they looked pretty sturdy, however, those doors are being screened for air flow through (we don't need or have A/C), cuz there will be very little traffic thru that door (kids and canines will enter and exit thru the mudroom).

Honme Depot sells the ODL. Trust me- stay away from DIY doors- it has nothing to do with your skill level- I've sold and installed for years. Phantom screens are a great choice for your application as they have many colors to choose from. This, of course, preempts you from being able to stain the interior. This assumes you are looking at wood. If you are looking at vinyl or fiberglass doors, your color choices may be a little off. Good luck.

I’m not familiar with the magnetic but we do have the retractable. The track needs to be keep free of debris and the user needs to be exacting to operate (so little kids and anyone with mobility issues would probably have issues with it). We have teens in our house so it works for us. But if I would do it again I’d try harder for a nice modern simple screen door. I’ll also add that if you entertain a lot the retractable can be an issue with people not familiar with it. It can get jammed up pretty easily (usually easily fixed as well - so far). Hopefully you will get someone to answer about the magnetic option.

Do you have recessed downlights over the door? That would help at night. During the day, short of facing your door with mirrors, no color that is appropriate for the home is going to show up in the dark recess.

my sister down in Del Mar had rectractable screens on her french doors. She has 4 kids and entertains a bit. They held up fine.

I will be using them on my build for my french doors.
