I'm finally getting serious about planning our Boston/Cape Cod trip for August. So excited - this is our first real vacation in more than five years!

Just realized that we'll be driving right by Mystic and would like to stop. We ate there years ago and I remember it being a lovely area.

Any recommendations for food, etc.? Will probably be coming through on Monday, Aug. 3 on our way to Boston.

Hi Sue,

How fun! Yes, if you're coming up I-95 you'll drive right by us...Exits #90 & #91. There's a scenic overlook just before the Mystic exit. Take Exit #91 & turn right at the bottom of the ramp. Go straight towards Mystic...you'll come to the "Welcome To Historic Mystic - Settled 1654" sign, then on your right will be the cemetery. Keep going straight & you'll come to Mystic Seaport on your right. Keep going to where the road dead ends (careful at that light...there's no right turn on red). Turn right, you'll see the firestation & a Henny Penny convenience store. Keep right & you be at the traffic circle. Round the circle until you've made a left-hand turn. Now, you're on Main Street. My church is right on the corner of the traffic circle. The next landmark is the Bascule Bridge. It goes up once/hour.

Just before the bridge, on your right, is S&P Oyster Company. They are right on the river & have a patio dining area. S&P has very good food. It's one of our favorite places to grab lunch. I've linked to it below.

Right across the bridge is Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream for dessert. If you have time, our downtown has a lot of fun shops to browse through...if you like luxurious linens you'll be in Heaven.

If you're not up for S&P Oyster House...don't discount Mystic Pizza. In spite of all the hype, the pizza's really good! Just drive through downtown (2 blocks past the bridge) & on your right just as you start up the hill you'll see the sign, "Mystic Pizza - A Little Slice of Heaven"...it's right past the bank.

If you have more time, Abbott's Lobster In The Rough is a Mystic-Noank landmark restaurant. You can get crab or lobster dripping in butter on a toasted roll (their trademark sandwich) or many other clam shack favorites. You can sit on the picnic tables right on the Mystic channel & watch the boats. Abbott's in the Rough is BYOB & they serve on paper plates. Most locals take tableclothes, sterling, china, candles, & wine at night creating a romantic waterfront dining experience.

Also, the Seaport's gift shop & art store are open to the public without purchasing admission tickets to the museum. If you have time, the art store is fantastic.

Olde Mystik Village is located right at I-95, Exit #91. There are 60 shops plus Mystic Aquarium is right next door. Go Fish is not bad for lunch & it's right next to the shopping center. There's a gourmet cook store in there also.

For a more upscale restaurant the Floodtide at the Inn at Mystic is good. They've been closed for remodeling since just after Christmas but are re-opening next week. If you go there...ask for the "lobster crepes". Even if they're not on the menu...they'll make them for you. Ah, they are sooo good. This is the Inn where Bogart & Bacall spent their honeymoon. They stayed in the mansion at the top of the hill.

If times allows, I'd also recommend a stop at Stonington Point (you can see Watch Hill, RI, Fisher's Island, NY, & of course CT from the point...there's a public beach & overlook right on the water). Of course, if you go there...then you'll be inspired to go to Watch Hill. And, from there...Newport. Oh, don't miss Newport on your way to the Cape! Even if you're not hungry...eat at the Red Parrot...just for the experience!

Vacation! We are sooo ready also. I am so glad it's finally summer.

Thank you my friend, Bob! Sometime we never know, what will happen with our life, next hour, tomorrow, next week , month ! So, I've tried to do every thing to get all xeric broms I love, at least I could say that I've done, even whatever gone forever. I can confirm that, at least, I should receive 10 kind of Crypt. from Dr. Larry collection and a few neat species from Tropiflora, that my friend had got with a bunch of Dyckia, Ortho, and some xeric in another genus. He will back Thailand next week....I can't wait. Love your pics of clump Crypt. I hope I will have them nearly soon, especially my Crypt. warasii LOL (may be ten year for that size!)

Hi folks, There's insufficient proceeds after the 1st mtg is paid off to cover the tax lien. So, there you have it. He can't close and deliver clear title on his own. He needs either his lender or the IRS to give ground, or get a personal unsecured loan to cover the differential. Apparently, he does not have cash to just pay it and be done with it. Of course, the interest/penalties now equal more than the unpaid taxes. We are not going to wait around to find out what he wants to do. The time frame on our offer has passed so it's now null and void. We're looking at other houses but our criteria is tough for the area. Foremost, it needs to be close to DS/DDIL. There is another house we are investigating as I type...totally what we said we DID NOT want. Built in 1810 (that's NOT a typo) and on 10 acres with it's very own CEMETERY surrounded by rock walls/iron gate. We'd have to maintain the cemetery (maintenance requirement is right in the deed) - probably about 30-40 graves. Anyway, this place would require a handicapped bathroom redo and unsure how much of that we are willing to tackle under the circumstances plus it would delay our moving. Other than this 1810 oldie but goodie - there's nothing on the market that remotely suits our needs. :( DH is an attorney and we both spent our careers in real estate lending so we're comfortable with the details - just mad nobody told us before putting in an offer. /tricia

Good luck. I found this online IRS tax liens do not go away. They stay on the property until they are paid off, accruing additional interest as they go along. Read your sales contract. Somewhere in it, you should be able to find wording indicating that the seller will deliver a clear and free title. Right now he can't. Discuss with your attorney how you want to proceed. and what your options are. This is not going to go away, nor is it going to be resolved quickly and smoothly. No lender will give you a mortgage until this is resolved. Your attorney can advise you if can withdraw your offer, rewrite a new offer contingent upon all liens being paid, or if it's even worth the effort to try to do so. Your attorney has to find out the amount of the lien, then he and the seller's attorney have to contact the IRS and see if they are willing to negotiate with the seller to get the house sold to try to pay off the lien. The IRS would want to see the contract, your pre-approval letter to see if you can indeed buy the house. Then they may or may not be willing to negotiate the lien. Depending on how much the lien is, there may not even be enough equity in the house to pay it off. A long drawn out process for sure. It looks like the IRS gets first crack at any money the SELLER may get at settlement. I can't believe they want YOU to pay for the lien, what skunks. Roosters are loud and annoy non-chicken owning neighbors, so are mostly not allowed in towns here. Here a neighbor has chickens and sells eggs and I walked past some bee hives a few days ago. In larger local cities ordinances allowing up to 6 chickens are common, no roosters. They don't cause any more smell or mess than the cats that run all over because Michigan requires dogs to be licensed and "under control", but cats can run about everywhere. The Grand Rapids Children's Museum even has a working beehive with glass walls so the kids can see the bees busily at work. There's a small tube that allows the bees to go out and gather nectar and then return to the hive. dedtired, my chicken pens also have tops and bottoms, the girls are only allowed to run about when I'm there to protect them. The biggest predators are the dogs that run around the neighborhood, but raccoons, coyotes and skunks love to get into the chicken pens, as well as an occasional weasel and fox. Annie

I agree with Tricia! I live 10 minutes from Mystic. My husband's favorite is S&P Oyster - not only b/c of the river view...

Azu, a new-ish restaurant near the drawbridge, is also cool... I love the lobster mac & cheese.

I recommend Stonington Burrough... just down Route 1 from Mystic.
