It depends. If the trellis is open on both sides (easy access from either side) then it shouldn't matter. If however, you only have access from one side, then it needs to be wide enough for your hand to fit through, WHILE holding your harvest! But, as bomber said,strength is the MOST important factor.

I did not tell anyone that I bought one from Logee's way back when I before I joined here and it did the very same thing in less than a year. I wonder if this is common or natural? If so, then I threw away a perfectly normal looking plant going dormant than one that I thought I killed. Please, I would like to know it's behavior in cooler less lighter climates.. If this is the case, that it's normal leaf die back, then I am getting another as soon as I find out.. It looked so beautiful for you this past summer! Have you thought of trying the 5.1.1 mix so you never accidently let it dry out too much? I find they like to be even,y moist. Toni....I would think it would take forever to start from a bulb abd even a little 2 inch pot...That is whay I started this thread in the first place...If I have to wait forever to the blooms then I'll pass unless I can get a much bigger mature one. Thanks for the tips, I'll see what they have at the nursery. Allentown is mostly zone 6, with occasional zone 5 winter conditions, but not every year. It seems the weather is not necessarily getting warmer per se with global warming, just more erratic. But I do know there is zone creep going on, so I probably can safely say I'm in zone 6 nowdays. I haven't seen many yellow ones around here, but it's a relatively new cultivar isn't it? Pink delight gets really big. So it seems that size DOES matter, at least height wise. Maybe that's why ho hum clethera gets ignored. Seems like a plant called "pink delight" would be tailor made for me, lol! But as you can see below, my garden is really small and tight. I'd put the plant just to the right of where those white dasies are in the picture. Daisies have been transplanted, and a dwarf japanese white pine is waiting to go in the back corner of the yard. The little white buddelia looked great in that spot, but was just ho ho hum in flower, and no scent and no butterflies.

Dave, I did not see any weights in it, but was asured they were around and that she would find them. I heard I can pick them up relativly inexpensivly from my local True Value, so is not a big deal. I still have plenty of time to pick up weights. lina_lou, Yes I think that I have had a string of good luck all in all with the free apples, free cases of canning jars and now the Pressure canner. It seems to me that in my area any ways no one seems to can anymore, so I have been lucking out. The person I got the canner from says she knows some more people who used to can and they my have loads of mason jars to get rid of. (they just have gotten to old or moved to a retirement home) so as do not have need for items anymore. They told me that they miss the home produce, so if all go's well and I dont poison myself in the learning process I will give them some of what I put up, its only fair. mark
