A lint free alchol wipe. The kind they use for cleaning an injection area for insulin. I also have a special rubber rejuvinator in a small bottle and its wiped onto as much of the rubber feed rollers that you have access to. HP does offer exchange programs on some printers. My office Jet is huge, color and black cartridges are about $60 for the pair, and after 2 years a paper guide broke off when the print head hit it. I sent back that base part and they exchanged it. It had a 3 year service plan which is now passed. Once it craps out, its history. Its sometims cheaper to get a new replacement than to get the old one fixed. No one will repair an HP inkjet as they are not user serviceable, and there are no legal repair sites. HP just exchanges them at a cost. The site below has a spray can with a long thin tube. You need to remove any paper lint as well as any 'shine' on the feed rollers. Don't attempt to rotate the rollers as they are on a geared shaft and can damage the gears. Run a few sheets of paper though while you spray the rollers. Just print blank pages so the print head stays put. Well, it wasn't necessarily the cartridge. After many repeated paper jams, the thing died. STINKERS, I'm only half way thru the job. Now I have to pay to get the rest printed somewhere and then buy a new printer. DH ran out and luckily got the the ink store right before they were locking the door! So a new ink, no printer. What luck :( Thank goodness we have a little independant print shop right around the corner. I can run over tomorrow AM and print it out myself. Still, the entire venture has eaten all the profits of the job. GGG

So why not ignore the parts of your current printer you do not need and use the rest? There is not much of a market for used printers, unless you already have a buyer of course. Buying another while you have a useable one seems odd. Watch for sales, just a couple of weeks ago there were some Canons on sale for under $40. No idea where now but it was a great deal at the time and with the depressed economy bargains will pop up occasionally. There are 83 here, all between $50 and $100. Notice the 'Reviews'? click on any row of stars to read the reports of actual users to aid your search. I personally like HP or Canon. In a thread a few weeks ago a couple of users spoke highly of recent Lexmarks so perhaps they have smartened up somwhat.

hi Pam I didn't comment before as I don't know much about printers so wouldn't have felt right in recommending one. Your Hubby sounds like me - I want it and I want it YESTERDAY!! LOL With the inks - I have found a spray called "Crystal Kote" works wonders at preventing smudges or fading. Let your project dry completely before use. I'm in Australia so you might have the same product under a different name so I'll give you the product discription that's on the can.
