In our state most cities require burglar bars to have emergency releases on the inside. You see them occasionally, primarily in homes that have not turned over in the last 20 years--anything that's sold since then typically has a security system instead. I suspect in most cases, it's older homeowners who don't want to put in a security system that may seem complicated/expensive, but still want a sense of physical security. Our house definitely had them in the 70s and 80s, since you can see where the holes were filled on some of the doors and windows, but they were replaced with an alarm system in the mid-90s by a previous owner. I agree that this either indicates a current or past crime problem. (In some areas of our city where crime has improved a lot, you can pretty much pick out the houses where someone has lived for 25+ years by the security bars--it's the first thing any realtor takes off when getting a house ready for sale!)

i would make it the kids' toy area/playroom if you have young kids and want to keep their toys out of the family room... obviously set up storage/toy boxes/easel, etc in area that isn't visible from doorways! if you have kids and they're alittle older and the house doesn't have a basement that you'd be going down to, it seems a good size for a pingpong table! we had a basement full of assorted game tables, and pingpong was by far the favorite! but, foozball could work too. either table could fit in the fireplace area and not be seen from the other room when looking straight on... if you don't have kids, i would probably set it up as an excercise area if you don't belong to a gym...

There are 3 management ills released by this change: 1. Apparently, a person unqualified for IT work made the decision to go with the lower cost application. That sounds very much like purchasing making a co-called cost reduction so they can put this on their list of accomplishments. A new, very important, untried application was not tried out before unleashing it system wide. A dummy account should have been created in the "sandbox" region of the server and the application tried there for a period of time. Many of the ills you mentioned should have shown up in the sandbox version and would have been contained. This would have given the system operators a chance either correct the software or reject it. Somehow, the system's virus checker was disabled or uninstalled. The SANDBOX: Many years ago, makers of large servers included a "sandbox" in their operating system. This is a feature that carves off a section of memory, and isolates it from the remainder of the computer. When accessed from outside the installation, it appears like a complete system. Its a place to experiment and give neophytes a place to roam. Any damage done is confined to the sandbox. Also, the system operators can use the sandbox to test to see if their corporate system is under attack by intruders, by lowering the protection on the sandbox and then watching for what comes in.

If this happened to me, I would do the following. I would PRINT SCREEN, PASTE the image into my graphics program, and crop the image so it contained only the popup. Then I would post the image along with the question so that others might have a clue as to what it is going on. But...that's just me.
