river rock as shower floor
Comments (8)We've had a river rock shower floor for about 2 months - we just completed a complete remodel of the baths. I love the look and feel of it. It is very similar to amysrq's floor above. We actually set it on the floor and stood on it for a few minutes at the tile store. My husband wasn't sold on the look but loves how it feels and love the look now that it is in. My big concern is long term maintenance. I'm the housekeeper here and there is a lot of grout - much more than regular tiles. For now I just spray cleaner and scrub it with a brush - very easy. I hope it stays that easy. Since I'm kind of wierd about the cleaning issue - after I wipe all the glass down - I throw the towel on the shower floor and dry it after each shower. Because of the natural shape of the rocks - we have a couple of places that take long to dry....See MoreHelp select grout color for river rock shower floor
Comments (36)We chose the Dusty Gray epoxy grout. I think the Raven would have looked great as well, but we decided to play it safe since I had heard from several designers in my area to not use the darker color. We still haven't hung the handheld on the wall (should've had them drill the holes in the tile for the mount at the time). I did purchase a bronze drain cover with fish pattern, but I need to round the corners to make it sit flush. Aside from our contractor bailing on us before the job was completed, we are fairly happy with how it all turned out....See MorePebble rock wet room floor
Comments (6)I mostly do epoxy grout for all my shower floors. Pre-seal the floor first if you do this to avoid staining issues with the resins potentially. Mongo’s points are great ones....If you are using a contrasting grout....it’s better in my opinion To set the pebbles individually. Even if you take your time to fit the sheets together you can sometimes still tell where the sheets are once its grouted. It takes more time but the finished product looks more natural. Like I said ...I tend to do this method if the grout is contrasting. If the grout is more the color of the tile then I will try to try to dry fit different sheets until you achieve a tight fit. Grout near the same color as the tile is more forgiving about showing inconsistencies. I like the sliced pebbles underfoot. It gives a nice texture with a lot of grip when wet. You want to give a shower floor with this kind of pebble tile more than the normal quarter inch per foot slope as it will help the shower floor shed more water being that there are more grout, wider joints in places. The epoxy grout really helps though in my opinion to achieve the look and also be low maintenance for the customer. It is a great look when done properly!...See MoreRiver Rock/Pebble Shower Pan Doesn't Dry...
Comments (4)So sorry for your experience with this! I have that exact same river rock on the shower floor in my basement bathroom, which happens to be used daily by my three teenaged sons, and when the shower base is done correctly it does indeed dry out completely....See MoreDYH
