Recommendations for 23 PC Monitor

That's 23 inch PC monitors.

I have Win 7 with IE PC and want to plan for Win 8 PC. Which ould be soon.

Would like the best I can get for around $300. If that's too low then give me your best. If it needs to be a little larger then tell me.

I have a 24inch Asus VS248 and a 22inch HP w2007 hooked up to this computer and both do a fine job. If pushed I might suggest the colours are slightly more vibrant on the HP.

I also have a 22inch Samsung which is a few years old on another computer, I had to replace 2 capacitors a while back but other than that it has been great. There are also 2 Acers here, a 17 inch and a 19 inch that have been good for me.

Here is a link to Tigerdirect where there is a large selection for you to see. This is not necessarily a prompt for the company but the selection is good. As you can see there is no need to exceed your $300 limit yet get a great monitor.

I second Owbist's recommendation for Acer. They're a reliable product. I currently use an Acer AL1917 which is around five years old. Before this current model, I had a smaller Acer that I replaced only because I wanted a larger screen. I gave the smaller monitor to a neighbor child and it's still operating in good stead. Considering the usage he probably gives it...I'd say that's an excellent recommendation for the life of an Acer monitor. :-)

I just quickly looked at office depot.. Really lots of monitors, almost all are under 200 dollars. LED only is a slight diff for newest stuff. LED supposed to be quicker, brighter, more colorful & use something like 40% less energy than lcd... way longer life too than fluorescent back lighting on lcd's. All I looked at seem to have hdi & vga outputs. My TV was bought right before hd.. hybrid digital / analog huge thing. Analog 4x3 screen, sort of square looking.. that shows wide screen with black border above & below the video for wide screen broadcasts. Regular full screen now is mostly commercials. Odd at first.. but now its normal to me.

Difficult to use. New computer: Gem CRT Monitor: Better but not much. Difficult to use Acer on new computer: Crystal clear. I did not try the Acer on the old computer. ============================================ Maybe all the old junk is just that- junk. Thanx for all your patience. Both CRT monitors have 6-7 years steady use each tho not at the same time. The old comp has 7 years with a new odd ball MOBO 1/2 way thru that. It's time. I think I'll just deep six it all.

Personally I love HP products especially the Pavilions I have a few of them and have had excellent luck, I do however prefer the AMD processors over the Intel, I have had both in HP Pavilions and from now on will only get AMD. The first thing you need to decide is if you want a pc with Windows XP or are you ready to risk trying Vista? that will definitely affect where to look because not as many XP computers are available now. I would not go with less than 1Gig RAM and really preferably it should be 2 or 3 Gig especially if you are going with Vista you will need that to run it well. A good size hard drive anywhere from 150 gig up. HP is my preferred brand of the big names, but I also like checking out the local shops that do custom builds, You can get exactly what you want with out a bunch of junk added on and many times they are less expensive plus you have someone to turn to locally if you have problems. IBM/lenovo also makes good product. My flatpanel monitor is an Acer which I love, it was very reasonable in price and has exceeded my expectations. The one thing to consider on a monitor is the type of connection you will need to connect to your pc, if possible you want one that has all connection types because that will give you more flexibility. However mine only has analog and it has been just fine for my needs. ANd of course if it is just your hard drive that has died I would get a new hard drive they are fairly cheap and put in there and keep that old pc as a spare or to use as a back up for file storage. Or load one of the free linux operating systems on it and give linux a try, I love it and use it daily.

Well, you guys aren't gonna believe this, cause I didn't. I figured out the problem - an iPod! What does an iPod have to do with anything? My mother-in-law has an iPod and she uses a little charger that plugs into a USB port on the front of my PC. Yesterday, while the PC was running, she came and plugged the iPod in - no problem. But, when I attempted to boot up - problem. On a whim, I decided to unplug the iPod and see what happened, because that was the only difference between yesterday and today. Sure enough, with the iPod unplugged, the PC booted just fine. Plugged it back in and the PC won't finish the boot process. Anyone else ever heard of this before?

I have seen many Acers and am happy to hear both of you give it a thumbs up. Owbist, thanks for answering my last two posts. My questions are not very interesting but are important to me. Where else would I go?

Tiger Direct is still loved by techies. I'm happy for them.
