Internal vs external blower for Wolf pro hood
Comments (9)While we wait for Terrace1919 to respond, I can relate that I have a Wolf Pro Island Hood with their (Broan/Nutone) 1500 CFM (rated) blower on the roof. Duct length from hood to blower is in the 15 - 20 foot range (never measured it). A section of the 10-inch duct incorporates a Fantech silencer. At full power (with MUA path, baffle and other parts pressure losses) flow rate is likely to be around 900 CFM actual through the 10 sq. ft. of hood aperture. One can talk normally around and across the space under the hood. There is noise, mostly baffle hiss due to turbulence, but it is not annoyingly loud for cooking. My blower has some rumble that a re-balancing could help, I suspect. Some of my ducting wears automotive damping material to suppress any conduction of blower noise along the steel duct. This hood fully captures the cooking plume from my 3500W induction wok located under the far end of the hood. Hood height above the counter is about 35 inches. Blower control is via a conventional (at the time) triac/diac circuit above the middle baffle area on the controls side. If you replace the internal blower with an external blower, it would be safest, without evaluating the potential power capability of the existing motor control circuit, to use the same power rating external blower. Otherwise, uprating the embedded blower controller is another possibility, if Wolf is willing or you are an electronics experimentalist. kas...See MorePull-out hood w/ 1500CFM External Blower?
Comments (13)They work fine. Most hoods (filter types) are flat on the underside so it's not really that different. I moved and don't have good illustrative pictures of mine but it worked well with a measly 650 CFM and was preceded by an 80s Kenmore version with probably less that also was pretty good. This one here is mounted pretty high due to the cabinet guy's interpretation of code which I allowed because thought was great--I loved the openness. This is a 36" wide GE Monogram. The guts are all in the cabinet, but there is still room on the sides of the cabinet for a crockpot and some gin. And it's easier to get INTO that cabinet because it's lower and you don't have to reach around a hood. These are great for small kitchens. My next kitchen might have that Best model. Sleek! Comments (15)OK better late than never. I finally got the wolf hood fan and broan 335 They are working as designed. For reference, my Wolf range hood was the pro hood..PW482718 I believe. Inside the hood there was just one electrical wire. This wire connects to the house 120V supply. There are also two regular electrical plugs inside the hood. These electrical plugs are where you plug in the blower (remote or internal) You will need your electrician to run a 3 conductor wire from the blower down to the range hood. Here are the differences between the Broan and Wolf remote blowers: The wolf external blower comes with a power cord that plugs into the plugs in the hood. You then splice this cord together with the cord from the remote blower and hide it in the junction box inside the hood. The broan remote blower does not come with this cord. Fortunately it is just a standard 3 prong plug. Just picture a computer power supply plug, and cut the end that connects into the power supply off. Just make sure it is rated for the amperage of the remote blower. Plug one end of this cord into the outlet inside the range hood, and splice the other end to the wires coming down from the remote blower. On the other hand you can purchase the official wolf cord but it is like $65 That's it, everything works as planned, the blower fan speeds are infinite. Lights, heat lamps, etc all work if wired this way. There may be slight differences cosmetically on the exterior of the blower, but without having both I can't say. All I can say is the broan 335 works with 100% with the wolf pro hood, you just need to supply a power cord....See MoreZephyr Tempest II or Tidal II range hood - dual blower loud?
Comments (29)@J Y Yes. We installed the two blowers in the Tempest II and have had it for over a year now. It was the best decision ever and the range hood is one of our favorite purchases during the kitchen renovation. It is not loud when you use it on speed 3 which is the speed we use all the time when cooking. We can still have a conversation in the kitchen at that speed without having to yell at each other. It has 6 speed settings and we only have to use speed 4 when we fry steak occasionally. The two blowers make such a huge difference in sucking up all the cooking smell. Can’t smell someone is cooking as normally the smell would travel up to the rooms upstairs. Very happy with Zephyr’s customer service as well as I called in a couple times prior to making my decision on a range hood and they had been very helpful in answering my questions. Let me know in case you have other questions....See Moregeo91324
