Zephyr Hood Seems Unreasonably Loud
Comments (10)Is it unreasonably loud at all speeds, or just when it running at full-speed? For most cooking tasks, it shouldn't be necessary to have the thing operating at it's highest speed. What type of ducting do you have? Is it smooth steel and sized properly? Is the ducting constricted at any point? How long is the duct run? How close is the elbow to the range hood? Ducting that is too small or constricted will generate more noise than larger ducting. Using an external blower with only a short duct run may allow blower noise to travel back and be heard under the range hood. There are in-line mufflers that can be installed, but you'd need to check with Zephyr to see if their use is supported with Zephyr systems. In any event, contact Zephyr or the local Zephyr distributor. They may be able to tell you what is normal, or advise on ways to minimize sound....See MoreBroan Allure II Range hood
Comments (15)Yes, venting directly behind will be noisier than venting upwards. Performance also suffers, and diameter of duct means a lot as well. We have two PowerPlus burners on our range, which max out at 14.5K - well under what GE Monogram, Capital, Bluestar, etc., now offer. The Broan Allure III is inadequate for my way of cooking, no matter what any salesman assured me (which they did). If I could get a Futuro Futuro in here, I'd do it, but I have very few uppers and can't afford to lose one to a chimney-style hood, unfortunately! A large problem is what kind of stove do you have, and where will the most steam/smoke/grease come from? If you have your power burners in front, the Allure won't capture a good percentage of it because it's designed for the strongest suction to occur a mere 7" from the back wall. It does a great job (on high) capturing heat escaping from the oven vents, which are on the back panel of my range. But no fan 7" from the wall is going to do a good job capturing steam/smoke/grease from a 12-qt pot on a front burner with a front edge over 14" past the exhaust duct. It is basically a poor design, built for stoves that have no power burners or power burners located on the back instead of the front. Motors are not the problem; design is what makes a hood efficient at capture or not....See MoreAnyone have a pic of a Zephyr Tempest 2 Hood
Comments (27)Hellonasty - when we built, the Tempest was available with a single or dual motor blower. We opted for the dual due to a greater flow rate. It depends on your cooking style and what you cook. The dual blower will definitely suck the unwanted odors out of the house much better than the lower cfm unit. When on high, it sucks the three filters against the frame as if it's trying to eject the filters from the house. You can tell the dual blowers really suck! If I had to do it again, I would spend the extra money to get the higher cfm. No question. As well, if I had to do it again, a Bluestar will be the focal point of the kitchen. Love the versatility and performance. Let us know how it all works out....See MoreExhaust Hood Pro Canopy Zephyr Tempest II vs. Elica Calabria vs. ?
Comments (4)Mine is not exactly what you are looking for, but could possible have the same motor? I have a Zephyr Siena Pro 48" 1200 cfm, and absolutely love it! Plenty of power, no too loud, amazing LED lights, easy to clean baffles, 5 min delay shut off function, automatic reminder to clean the baffles. I haven't found a negative in the 7 months that I have been using it (daily). I wok etc...no problems. Be sure to have a 10" duct to keep the power and noise level appropriate....See MoreK H
