Internet Exployer 8

Would it be beneficial to download 'Internet Exployer 8' (that optimizes access to Yahoo), and is McAfee better than AVG?

If you get Internet Explorer 8, its a good idea to get it from Microsoft rather than installing the yahoo or other branded versions.
It's a good idea to look through the Release Notes before installing IE8 to make sure you dont have a program that it doesnt get along with.

I don't like McAfee, and I'm not alone in that dislike.

I used to use AVG .. its nice. I switched to Avast as that was the most popular on the day I needed to uninstall/reinstall and Avast has its plus's for me too ... but AVG will cause fewer problems for most people and is really simple to use.

I had McAfee free from my ISP I had some serious pc problems I got rid of McAfee and voila the problems disappeared so I personally do not care for it.
I used AVG but now use AVAST and much prefer it.

IE8 does definitely have some conflicts with certain programs so making sure you have that info prior to install would definitely be beneficial. There is a thread here about IE8 that you can search for it has some good info.

Hi everyone, This is very informative and from what I've read, it said nothing about removing IE7 and it makes sense to me that if you would remove IE7 and then put in IE8 and you didn't like it you wouldn't be able to go back to IE7 because you removed it. Hi Owbist, Do you have an external drive or second internal drive to which you create backups of your computer? If so the answer is quite simple methinks. Backup the whole computer. Install IE8 and test it. If it fails miserably, which it probably will not, then you can restore the backup and carry on as you were. If your version of IE8 is from yesteryear then use the link below and grab the latest version. Thank you for that information and thank you for the link to the download. I was thinking if the old wasn't good now, then I wouldn't want to download that one and start with a new one. Your link will be very helpful. No I don't have an external hard drive, I've looked them up but, didn't know which one was the best one to get or how large of a one I would need. I have flash drives but I don't think you could use one of those to backup a whole computer. raven, Thanks also for the xmarks link I will save that link in case I want to use that one. My problem would be trying to use it once I download it. Yes, by all means use a current link to the upgrade. DA Thank you I will do that.

If you have turned Tabs off, did you have 2 IE8 windows open at the time you saw 2 IE8 processes running? I'm guessing that you did and that is exactly what I would expect Task Manager to show. If you did not have 2 windows open, then something else is going on. You didn't say how much memory is in the machine, but if you have only the minimum then IMHO using tabs would better than opening multiple IE windows.

IE8 beta is a much improved browser over IE7. The reason new users don't like it is because of the change in appearance, new locations of certain features and the tabbed browsing. If you do try IE8, it can always be uninstalled and will revert back to IE7. But, if a person doesn't like Avant, they most likely won't like IE8. I've used IE8 beta since the first day on XP, Vista, and now on Windows 7 with no problems. I would suggest Firefox 2.0.0.20 now available for download. Dec. 18

anyone still using IE6 on their computer is seriously jeopardizing the safety of their pc, MS stopped updating IE6, it is essential to update to a newer version asap. Websites are no longer supporting IE6 so many things will not work. The most important thing however is the huge holes in IE6 that are no longer being patched which leave you wide open to nasties. If you insist on not doing IE8 then definitely at the very least get IE7 NOW Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP Please understand that leaving IE6 on your pc and simply using a different browser does NOT necessarily help in blocking your exposure. Downloading and installing IE7 will take care of that so would IE8. Then if you choose to use firefox instead you are good to go but definitely update from IE6.
