no URL address box on Firefox

On Internet Explorer I have a Url Address Bar that shows where ever webpage I browse to but on Mozilla Firefox there is no URL, I made sure on Mozilla Firefox that the navigation bar is is selected.

I also went to view and clicked on tool bars and clicked on bookmarks toolbar but that didn't help either. How can I get it back and where did it go?

Did you close FireFox and re-open? Some changes will not take effect until you do this. Maybe even a reboot?

When someone posts a URL at the end of their post using the "Optional Link URL", why can I no longer open it in a new tab? I use Firefox browser and I cannot right click for that option as I used to do. I too use FF and Right Click on a link and then choose to have it open in a New Tab. What I have noticed in the past day or two is that when I click on a link and choose to open it in a New Tab, that the new tab opens Just to the right of the existing tab I am on, as opposed to it opening over to the very far right as it used to. Make any sense? I believe it has something to do with FF and not with GW. I just went to another site and clicked on a link and chose to have it open in a new tab, and it opened to the very right of the tab I had open. I recently updated FF and think it started happening after that...not positive though. You might try stopping by Computer Help, linked below and ask about it. Jean and Marooma, So glad you know how to do what I need and are willing to share the info so readily. I've been using another browser that opens the tabs automatically and was afraid that Firefox wouldn't! I just tried the methods you both suggested and they work just fine. Hooray. Thank you. Kat Ravencajun, I hoped you'd still be here -- you helped me immeasurably in the past with your on-the-mark knowledge. I'd already done the Tools > Option > Tabs > "New Pages Should Open in" > "A New Tab" and for some reason, that doesn't do the trick. I must have gotten the browser that was made on an off day. Ha I've frequently made use of the right-click to open new tabs or go to links so I won't lose my place. That's getting easier to do at my age! :) Thank you for responding. Kat

wow this was flashback moment LOL till I realized it was from last June. unfortunately that link I provided as the linker site no longer is there, I don't know why or what happened but now it is some advertisement portal. I do like the firefox add-on mentioned, it is absolutely one of my all time fave add-ons and gets used many times a day there are a few other firefox add-ons that can help do links. One is Colt CoLT 2.4.3 what I like about Colt is that if you are on forums that require BB code it also gives the option to copy the link as BB code as well as HTML. With Copy as Html Link add-on you can go to a webpage and hilight any single word or group of words on the page then right click on them and from the menu select copy as html link and when you paste it in your reply just the words you selected will show up as the clickable link, so if you go to a page about socks for example and you just find the word socks on the page, hilight the word, right click, choose the copy as html option, and paste it all you see is socks which is blue and clickable. Very cool add-on.

YOu should uninstall and reinstall Firefox it sounds like you got a corrupted file some where in your profile. you can keep a copy of your bookmarks.html file if you already had it loaded in, just save it to your desktop then when you re install firefox import that file that you exported out earlier. I am not on 3 right now but normally it is bookmarks, organize bookmarks, file, export and then the same to import. there is a vulnerability in 3.03 but they are already working on it and will probably send out an update today or tomorrow it they have not done it already in the nightlies.

Make sure that the menu bar is selected to show, same place you found to select the navigation bar.

Grandms, thank you but what did you mean close Mozilla firefox and re-open? I open my laptop everyday and the url address box is just not there.

Thank you laat2, I tried everything on the link you sent. Nothing worked.

Ravencajun, I have a check mark on the menu bar but still no url address bar..I have tried right clicking everywhere else to.

What I meant is X out of your browser (Firefox), and then re-open that again. But I really don't know whether that affects your settings or not. On the menu bar you should have File, Edit, View, History, etc. Click on View, and then choose Toolbars. In the drop-down list check Menu Bar, Navigation Bar, and any others you want. Then close Firefox. Open Firefox again and see if you have the toolbars you checked. No right clicking necessary. Hope this works for you.

for me all of my versions of firefox have the address bar on the menu bar perhaps right click and choose customize and see if you can drag the url bar on to it. make sure it has not been squeezed down so you can not see it because you can slide and move all of that stuff on the bars to the size you want it and it can get so squeezed it virtually disappears.

There has to be a setting in about:config for it also but I don't know exactly which it would be.

Menu Bar (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help)

Press ALT V T M (CTRL V T M on Macs) on your keyboard. This should restore the menu bar , You can also restore the menu bar by pressing Alt and going to View : Toolbars : Menu bar

Navigation Toolbar

Press Alt V T N (CTRL V T N on Macs) on your keyboard. You can also restore the Nav. Toolbar by going to View : Toolbars : Navigation Toolbar

OR

1) click on start 2)go to all programs 3) roll down to mozilla firefox folder 4) click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode), check the box where is said you can enable the menu bar.

I had this issue right after I upgraded to Firefox 12. The browser worked perfectly, but often would not display the URL unless I went up to the address window and clicked on the blank, dashed square where the icon for the URL should have been: then the address would display normally...but only for that page. If I went to another page, the address was usually missing and I would have to click on the icon to make it display if I needed it. What fixed this for me was the following, although I can't explain why:
1) Right-click on the blank icon in the address bar;
2) Check the box for Menu Bar;
3) Refresh the page.

After that, when I went from site to site, the address was displayed as normal all the time.

[Because I didn't want the Menu Bar displayed and taking up screen space, I then right-clicked on the icon in the address bar, and unchecked the Menu Bar. The addresses continued to display properly.]

I'm glad most of you knew what I was asking, so thank you so much, it works now. I like to send links to friends about something on a web page that I think they might enjoy reading and to not have a url address was crazy. I have did system restore thinking I could get that url back but couldn't. I am so sorry I updated my Moxilla Firefox and caused all this maddness.
