If you do have Adobe and it has an update you really should do it because they are usually always for security reasons, there are really some bad problems with it that can make you vulnerable if you do not keep it updated. I got rid of adobe reader long ago and went with pdf xchange PDF-XChange Viewer that avast pop up should have a link right on it for you to select to do the re-register it takes just a second.

Avast is good to go Shax, nothing you need to do. The voice is just another way of them reminding you who they are and that they are protecting you. On the security issue you can click Start, Control panel and Security and a window pops up showing the status of your security programs. Rather a nice feature I think. By default you should have Windows Defender installed and it is totally automatic. I might suggest though that on occasions you visit the page I mention to verify things are still good and only green 'Go' signals are there. Vista also has a far better 2 way firewall than the one on XP

yes you will need a cd for sure. The exe is the actual executable for the program that is what you will need, you will put it on your old pc and double click it to start the install process. I agree I would definitely get the free version of superantispyware and use it as your number one scanner for antispyware it is the best free one out there right now. I use an old version of zone alarm pro it does not update either but it works like a charm and is much less bloated. Several of the tech folks I know use some of the older versions just because they are lighter and still work fine. I know some day I will have to get a newer version but till then I love my old one. I do have a cd stored with all of my programs on them just in case I ever need to do a reinstall, I have them readily available.
