foxfire browser - how do I get rid of...

that "Getting Started" and "Latest Headlines" strip? Seems like it was something very simple once you know the secret, and I took it off my old PC, but so long ago I can't remember how!!!

I guess it is, although that name "bookmark" kind of throws me. I guess if the wrong thing disappears, I can always re-check it, and try something else...

Greetings to all ... Wow, this is an old post but always very relevant, right? Actually, I recently purchased 3 pre-potted plants: Bougainvillea, Pentas Plant, and a large Kale from a popular local farm. They were not pot-bound, so I did not repot them ... Just placed them in my yard. Little did I know all three had millipedes in the soil, and all three eventually died. It was when I uprooted the dead plants that I discovered the millipedes in the soil. Now I know to always repot anything I purchase from them. This soil is very rich in organic matter, so I saved it in a sealed clear plastic bag and solarized it to eliminate the millipedes. I'm not certain if the millipedes eventually feed on the roots of potted plants, but that appears to be where the issue was. The plants just dried out rather quickly. In fact, I placed a potted succulent on top of the soil of the Bougainvillea and it lost all its root system. At least that one can be easily rerooted. Millipedes may be beneficial in natural settings but not in potting soil and definitely not in houseplants. Diatomaceous Earth (food-grade DE) does not address the issue. You have to replace the soil ... Especially so if yours is a houseplant. Millipedes do not bite but most people are allergic to a substance they ooze, which causes itching and skin irritation.

I've had the same problem recently and I finally had to download Mozilla with Adblocker. No matter what I did,deleting temp files and reloading the page the ads were still there. I did send an email to GW but never received a reply. I also now have to login every time I visit the site. I don't know what's going on but it is frustrating.

Oh man, this is a huge issue for me. In general, I am not a pack rat. However, there are a few big stumbling blocks for me. The first is a desk my father made for me. It is the only thing I own that came from him. It is well made for a home project, but it is too small and does not work at all in my home office. I have nowhere else to put it. I want to replace it but the thought of sending it off to a thrift shop is killing me. I also have jewelry from my mother, and more to come since she is still quite alive. I also will inherit sets of Limoges and Spode china, a big silver service, Boehm birds and on and on. None of these items fit my lifestyle. I will offer them to my nieces but their lifestyle is even more casual than mine. Yet, I know all these items are important to my mother and I hate to let them go. I also have an attic full of old Fisher Price and Playskool toys that I saved for my grandchildren -- who never materialized! I am not sure what they represent to me, but I simply cannot part with them. Maybe it's the knowledge that I am never going to be a grandmother which honestly doesn;t bother me that much. I have four darling grand nieces and nephews. Here's another -- miles and miles of old home movies. I have had them all transferred onto DVDs, but I feel so nostalgic about the films. Just seeing them and smelling them brings back a rush of memories of my father, who loved his 16 mm camera. I guess they will stay in the family until they reach a generation who doesn't give a hoot about them and tosses them in the dumpster. I dread the day when I clean out my mother's house, which is enormous and packed with stuff. A lot can be dumped or sold but there also are a lot of family items. Why oh why do we do this to ourselves??

I use adblock plus on my mac in Firefox and I don't see any ads in Yahoo. When GW switched to Houzz, someone posted about adding "Styles" to make the page appear more like the old GW. I added something called Morning Glory. One of the benefits is it is blocking out all the new ads that Houzz is putting on the sidebar. I looked at GW in Safari where I don't have "Styles" added and the ads made me crazy. I checked on Firefox by turning off the "Style" and could see all the ads for Houzz. I couldn't get adblocker to block them. So I simply turned the Morning Glories back on. Oh, and I donate every year to AdblockerPlus because I appreciate it so much!

you are welcome. I use mine constantly however so I was surprised you wanted to eliminate it. I put all my daily sites I go to up on that bar so anytime I want to go to them I just click on the little icon for them there, so much easier than having to go into my favorites list since mine is huge LOL

Ravin, as a rule, I don't turn my PC on for days at a time. No "daily sites" for me. I just need it now and then for e-mail and research, and a little shopping. But now that I know what it's there for, maybe I'll put it back and try it--once I figure out how to do all the other stuff I gotta do... (twice, because I have to adjust Hubby's PC also.)

just in case you do not know how to use it, once you have it put back in place then any time you visit a site say like this one that you like to visit, while you are on that site just reach up to the address bar and grab the little icon at the front of each address and drag it right down onto that bar and voila you now have a link to click to go there. If you want to change the name or something just right click on it and choose properties there you can change the name etc.

For the sites that I go to daily, I pull that little icon on to my desktop where it becomes a shortcut.

Quick and easy.

I much prefer them on my browser bar that way I do not have to minimize my browser to get to my desktop, once it is up and running I have all my fave site icons right there on my browser bar.
