I had the same message, but reopened the AVG program and ran update again (10:28am EDT) and everything ran smoothly. If it was an AVG problem I think they fixed it.

I got it straightened out! I went into the AVG Update Manager Properties and found that it was set to complete the updates when the computer was restarted. I changed it to Update Immediately, and it worked perfectly yesterday and today. I have no idea how it ended up with the restart selection, but as long as it works now without having to reboot each time, I'm happy. Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate it. Dee

fwiw My Vista / AVG works with no .bin error. It's all up to date. Think yesterday i saw a AVG popup saying download available while it was doing its daily scan... I checked for updates later on and nothing.. so it auto installed. Or they cancelled it. There are several bin files. Some of which here are sort of turned off, or not used,,, in the configurations for MSN intant messaging as they were causing a login problem with that iM program.

Well if you had success with Malwarebytes perhaps it is not necessary to run Superantispyware. If you would care to try then as you start the computer keep tapping the F8 button and a screen will appear with start up options. Select safe mode, everything will look totally different to the normal startup because only essential drivers have been allowed to start. My concern was the fact you mentioned AVG was not running properly. That is a good indicator of trouble. On reading the initial post a second time it appears you overcame that issue
