I did that exactly, ellessebee. I have the 240V OTR Advantium mounted above the counter. I also have 15" wall cabinets so it fits and works like a charm. I don't think there are any differences in the cooking features between the wall oven and OTR models. The oven cavity is pretty big, because I can fit a half sheet. There are two considerations you need to keep in mind. 1. The OTR does need to vent, because it performs a cooling function after using the non-MW functions. I have mine blow out the front, above the door. In hindsight, I would have run some duct up and over to the adjacent rangehood. 2. The door needs and extra inch of clearance on the hinge side (left) to open. When the contractor first installed it, the whole unit was flush with the cabinet and looked awesome. He was so proud of himself, as was I. I went to use it later and couldn't open the door. It also blocked the exhaust in the front. He had to come back and reinstall it by tacking 2x4s (actually measured 1.5x3.5) to the back wall and then installing it. Now it all works beautifully, while taking a slight hit in the aesthetics. Another benefit to mounting the OTR model OTC is that the underside is heat and moisture resistant. So my coffee maker has a permanent home under there where I don't have to worry about the steam damaging the undersides of the cabinet. Oh, and the built in light of the OTR serves as task lighting for the area underneath. So I also saved money on lighting there. This post was edited by jscout on Mon, Jan 28, 13 at 13:26

I know we'll use it. Thanksgiving, for example, we have vegetables in one oven, rolls in another, the turkey is already out and "resting", we are heating broth in the micro for the gravy, the potatoes are probably done and need to keep warm - and all the cooking appliances are busy. Yeah, I know someone will say "how often is Thanksgiving" but we do this kind of large family/friends meal or entertaining at LEAST a dozen times a year. I know we need something to keep the finished items warm and the lights aren't cutting it. I'm just thinking that for those times that we don't need the warming drawer, the Advantium might be a nice quick cook option to have around.Aarghh - still can't decide. Please keep the input coming!

I don't zap potatoes so I'm not volunteering to race even though I have a large Monogram ("Pro" 240), but want to answer the OP. Samantha, I haven't heard good things about countertop style convection microwaves. My guess is that they're underpowered. I'm one of the people who doesn't really like the results of the speed oven settings on the things I've used it for, but I haven't had the need for it that I had thought I would have. There is a learning curve. Using the programmed settings, I find the results too microwaved-seeming. One can adjust these. When I've said I didn't care for the speed ovening, I've always said that in the context of not using it enough or really learning it. Many people who have participated here, including those whose enthusiasm made me consider Advantium in the first place, have loved the results. You might try over in Kitchens if you don't get enough info on speed cooking with the Advantium here. There aren't so many of us now who stick around to answer questions about it in Appliances. Unless there's a new feature since I bought mine, there isn't actual "grilling". There's a ridged pan that comes with, called a "grill pan", but that's just for keeping things from getting soggy. The four modes are microwave, speed, convection and warming. The convection feature works like a standard convection oven: There's a heating element that heats the air, which is then circulated by a fan. There isn't a direct heating element with the convection like there would be on a convection added regular oven. The environment in a convection oven is closest to a regular oven on "bake". The interior of the Advantium on convection is very dry, so a little extra moistening is necessary to compensate. It's very useful as an oven but does have some limitations. Generally, things that require eggs for lift don't like convection. And it does take a good while to preheat. There isn't actually any scientific basis for the urban myth that microwaving destroys nutrients more than other forms of cooking. Heating in general can destroy some vitamins, and in some vegetables can actually release vitamins and/or make them accessible to the body. Breaking down the cell walls by cooking (all cooking does this) will make the nutrients in tomatoes, for instance, more accessible. Microwaving can preserve the water soluble vitamins that are lost in steaming or boiling. Roasting is currently popular. There are some compounds created in roasting which are potential carcinogens. Eating more veggies because they're delicious when roasted will protect you more from cancer. Many of the best nutrients are in the peels, so eating whole veg will do the most for you. If you won't eat an apple if you have to eat the skin then it's better to eat the peeled apple than no apple. There are still good things in the flesh of the apple.

At her size, your pup should be fine on the puppy formula. However, there is some confusion in this thread about feeding large breed puppies that I think it is important to clear up. With few exceptions, puppy foods are inappropriate for large breed puppies (Lab, Golden, Collie, GSD, etc.). As joepyeweed mentioned, there is concern about them growing too fast, but puppy foods exacerbate the problem rather than solving it. Excessive fat and protein content promotes fast growth and can lead to orthopedic problems. There are now some large breed puppy formulas that are designed to prevent excessively fast growth. With giant breed puppies (Great Dane, Mastiff, Newfounland, Leonberger, Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernard, etc.), the concern is far more serious. Orthopedic problems can be crippling in these breeds and, unfortunately, are quite common. Even large breed puppy formulas are inappropriate and can be dangerous for these breeds. Only two brands that I know of (Eagle Pack and Innova) have large breed puppy formulas that are appropriate for giant breed puppies. Adult formulas are much better for them and support slow, steady growth, which lessens the risk of growth disorders.
