demo version and the pdf-xchange viewer

I have been using the PDF-XChange Viewer for a number of years. However recently, I downloaded an 'improvement', and most PDF files I now open from the internet have an annoying "DEMO Version,www.docu-track.com, Tracker Software" across every page. Is there a way of ridding myself of it, or should I revert to Adobe Reader?

Think I would uninstall it and reinstall a new version without the add on. It adds ocr capability to pdf-xchange. There may be a reason to have it but I couldn't think of one. Another alternative is the foxit reader which many people prefer. I've never tried it but have read good things about it. No way would I consider going back to Adobe reader.

I use and like Foxit Reader. Been very satisfied with it, too.

Just in case someone does not know how to update it open your pdf xchange viewer, at the top click on Help there you will see the option to check for updates, follow the prompts you will get the latest version and it will remove the old version. I went with the default settings during the install. once install is complete you can click on Help again then About and see that it did install the updated version number.

Thanks, Raven. I just found that the program (or set up files) were sitting in my documents - and seemed not to have been set up. Maybe my daughter (using my computer) was prompted to upgrade - and downloaded the set up file - but never installed? I'm pretty sure I hadn't done that. Anyway - it's set up and working now. Thanks. I'm sure I understand the difference between scanning and copying. We have a regular copier which is not what I need to solve my problem. There is a scan program for the HP fax, scanner, printer, copier but we only use it as a printer for our laptops as it has wireless capability. I used the copy function once but it was so slow I decided we really didn't need the scanner anyway (at that time) as I didn't want to take the time to play around with it. A couple of years ago, Office Depot GAVE me a scanner when we bought our laser printer but we didn't have the room to add another machine we really didn't need. I even considered donating it but it was a flatbed scanner which I thought would come in handy if we ever wanted to scan something from a book. Hopefully there is software with one of the scanners that will enable me to fill out the forms as I normally do with the typewriter. That never occurred to me until Colin mentioned it. In the old days when computers promoted faxing someone claimed an easy way to scan documents into your computer was to fax them to the computer but I never needed that either. It's almost ten years and I'm still in the last century, LOL. Hope to have time next week to try out the scanner at last the wireless one. Will post my results.

You must move away from IE6 you are leaving your self wide open to vulnerbilities, it is no longer supported and most websites no longer support it so many will not render properly using IE6. There is just no good reason not to update to at the very least IE7, since you have xp you can not use IE9 but you could do IE7 or 8. Here is the link to all versions of IE please update. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie You are leaving the car doors open with the keys in the ignition. I fear you may also have not done other very important updates including java, adobe and flash, all of which can leave you wide open too. Use this tool to see what needs updating and by all means if you have old versions of java on your pc you MUST remove them you can either do that through add remove programs or use JavaRA to do it. I use pdf xchange also and really like it, I have never had that problem, it sounds like you may have somehow got a trial version of the pay for one. Here is their forum you can check there to see if they have an answer there already or post yours there.

this right here from their user manual is what makes me think you got the pro version trial
"When you install an evaluation copy of PDF-XChange all output is generated with 2 watermark
stamps on each page signifying that the PDF file was generated with a 'demo' version - once you
have purchased your 'live' copy you must enter the Serial number provided to ensure that all future
output is free of these evaluation watermarks. If you have not installed the demo version you should
do so now using the link in your Purchase confirmation or from:"

"it is a bug in the plugin. Here's the official response from Tracker Software:

Please

uninstall all PDF-XChange Software from your computer using the Windows Control Panel.

run the installer again: http://www.tracker-software.com/PDFXVwer.zip

This should clean up any version conflicts you may have and also ensure your plugin DLL for Firefox is the correct one and you should no longer get the watermark on your pages.

What is wrong with Adobe Reader? I work with it every day for years without any problems. I've never had a problem, documents print perfectly and very easy to open and read.

Just curious, what it is you don't like about Adobe?

The security issues that are prevalent in Adobe. I got rid of it on all my computers and went with pdf xchange long ago. Another good option is Sumatra.
Adobe is also very resource heavy the others are much lighter weight programs.
