Saint Patrick's Day seems like a good time to announce the news. A new Irish-American is on the way! My daughter and her husband expect their first child in August. We're so excited about becoming grandparents!

Congratulations! You're going to love it. Being Grandma is the best thing to be in the world!

Last month, my 21-month-old grandson saw my arrival through the window and started yelling, "Sherry's here! Sherry's here!" and ran to greet me by running to me and joyfully saying "Hi Sherry!" I have no idea why, it came out of the blue! We didn't know he even knew my name. All the other gks call me "Gramma" just as he did until that day! It's so darn cute.

Ken, it seems that you were informed before. ... All the time. I never seem to know when to stop, even with hubby calling out the door "Time to come in now". When it's hot I pin a pillow slip with crushed ice in it around my neck. When it gets dark I turn on the outside lights, but try to come in by 10 PM so the lights don't bother the neighbors. I'd rather be outside than inside any ole' day and gardening gives me an excuse to be there. Incidentally, for insect bites Bob happened to notice that HEB brand antibiotic ointment has a topical pain reliever in it so it stops the itch of mosquito bites very nicely. Maybe other brands have it too. Well, almost time to put the rolls in the oven. My computer is right next to the kitchen so it's easy to take a little rest from cooking in that chair :-) Wishing you all a blessed Easter Sunday ...

These little things that whip up fast are so satisfying when the appliquÃ© goes so slowly. ;> Plus, handwork is new to me so this was a useful object that I wanted to have available. I like that it stands up by itself when it's stretched out a little. It took less than 2 FQs but if you used the same fabric for the lining you could do it with one. You could also vary the length or depth at will. I used one 7"x13" section for the back pocket so that the flap was long enough to wrap over the front. I interfaced the front piece (1/2 of one 7"x8" piece) and the back one for a little sturdier constitution but the original blogger just seems to have chosen a heavier weight fabric than quilting cotton. I like the softness of hers. Thanks for admiring the orange print. I just had to pick it up when I needed the aqua piece for my appliquÃ© project. They just seemed to go together so well in the FQ bin I wasn't going to be the one to separate them. ;>

Oh Cloudy. You are about to be having the time of your life. My Maggie is 2 1/2 years old and is quite the princess. I asked her the other day if she wanted me to fix her hair. Her reply to me was "I dought it Boo". I have no idea what that meant but I knew she didn't care to have her hair fixed. LOL!

Congrats to you, your DH, DD and SIL.

Must say I am crazy jealous. I hold out little hope for DS and DD will get there eventually but I'll look more like GGM by then!!! LOL

That's wonderful. Maybe he/she will call you Cee-cee. I am very happy for you and your family.

I'm jealous, too. By the time my sons get around to marrying and having kids (if they ever do) I will be too old and doddering to enjoy them.

Wonderful news, CC. I'm also wishing your DD an easy and uneventful pregnancy and delivery.

Grandkids are so much better than having your own. All fun, no responsibility, you can send them home when you get tired and they're great playmates. (grin) Oh yes, way more fun than children, we should all have grandchildren first. I have to just figure the logistics of that.....

Fantastic news Nana!! Although Nana may be altered.

I wanted to be called "Cathy" as opposed to granny, grandma, grammy, or similar ilk; now that it's real time, I couldn't care less. It's just wonderful to hear their precious voices call me. I just need to figure out how to get more sleepovers. My DD is so selfish; I taught her to share.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm jealous of you grandmas who get to live close to your grandchildren. I'm four and a half hours away.
I'll be "Nana" because I loved my own Nana dearly. She was a wonderful Irish lady. We'll pass on the stories about her and the clan to this new generation.

I am a first time grandmother-to-be, too. My DD was due last Sunday....we're on pins & needles waiting. You're in for such a special time!

Four and a half hours IS close! My grandson is half a continent away. I've seen him for a few days at a time, once or twice a year.

YIPPEE!! Congratulations to you!

"They" say being a grandparent is the greatest, but I have two more months to wait before I know for sure! LOL

I can tell you, however, that since I know my grand will be a girl, it has been so darn much fun to go shopping! I usually hate to shop, but miraculously it has gotten to be so much more joyful! LOL

Best wishes to your daughter for an easy pregnancy and a happy, healthy baby for you to spoil rotten!

Seems to me that we don't get to pick what we're called. For instance, my kids called my mom & dad Mama and Papa, but my two brothers' kids called them Gram and Gramps.

Most of my cousins, my brothers and I called our grandmother Mimi, but one cousin, the eldest, called her Gramma.

Of my five who are old enough to call us anything, three call us Gramma and Grampa, one calls us Grammy and Papa, and one calls us Papa and Sherry! That one cracks us up, he's so adorable.

Whatever they call us, it's great! Nobody gets mixed up. I think Bubbe is cute!
