I bet they'd love to go to the final Canada-USA game!

The expected final, Canada U.S. ; we watched the last 5 minutes of last night's semi final game, it was very close, 3-2. It would have been disappointing that Canada would have lost in overtime, I was on pins and needles until that clock ticked off the last minute..

I actually watched quite a bit of the womens' curling competition between Canada and Sweden last night. It was very interesting to me, but I'm not sure why?

Questions for those of you that know more about it than I do:

~ how can the players "skate" on the ice surface and walk w/o falling down?

~ are there different sizes and weights of stones/rocks?

~ are there no referees or judges?

~ what are the long round paddles used for?

~ how many are on a team and are there others for subs?

I've really enjoyed the games this year. Some heart warming victorious along with some losses. Congrats to Canada for setting the record for most gold by a host nation. Looks like you have chance to break the record for most gold ever depending on how things play out today.

Win or lose, all of the athletes should be very proud of themselves. Just getting there is one heck of a thing in itself.

What a game , amazing all the way around. Now that is hockey!Team USA played so well, forcing sudden death with 20 secs in the third...brutal!

I really wanted to give the US goalie a hug...poor baby, he did so well and he looked so sad.

Way to go Team Canada and hugs to team USA.

Wasn't that a fantastic game!!! I was so on the edge of my seat. We had two TVs going....me with the English program on Eurosport and Wolf with a German program and commentator, with a slightly different camera view. It couldn't have been a more exciting game.

And I'm so thrilled to hear that my grandson, an avid 15 year old hockey player flew from Calgary to Vancouver yesterday with his dad to soak up the last day of the Olympic fever in the streets and they got tickets to this game! So they were inside the arena for the event. They say they will frame their tickets which will be lifetime mementos. I bet they won't get much sleep in their hotel tonight! So very glad they could have the chance to do that!

And now I'm staying up to watch the closing ceremonies which will start at 01:30 am here. Guess I won't be doing much tomorrow except sleeping in.

Oh man I was out doing basket deliveries for my synagogue. Every house that had someone answer the door, I said 'here is your purim basket, whats the score?' NOT ONE PERSON was interested or was watching! sheesh.

I can only add to the above, what a nail biter that was; I arrived at my parent's house in time for the last few minutes of the game but what I was fearing happened and after that it was open season for both teams.........

I'm glad we won the gold but I felt bad for the U.S.A. team who almost got it.
You could read the disappointment and exhaustion on their faces, so close.

Anyone else disappointed in the attitudes of the US Hockey team during the medals ceremony? Not a single one of them smiled or even looked at their silver medals. The announcers were just as bad, talking about how awful and hard it was for them to have to stay around for so long waiting on the ceremony after losing the game (they never said this about the speed skaters or figure skaters that got the silver or bronze). Athletes in all of the other sports that won silver medals at least managed to smile and hold up their medals during the ceremony. And the announcers always talk about how proud they should be of their close performance and the way they represented their country. Why shouldn't the hockey players be proud of their silver medals and the way they represented their country? I thought they looked like sore losers, spoiled brats, when they ended up with a silver. I know they were disappointed, but so were many other athletes in the Olympic Games and they still managed to be gracious during the medal ceremony and smile.

My children went to a Cotillion dinner tonight and said all of the kids were talking about it. They said it just wasn't in keeping with the spirit of the Games.

Yes, I was disappointed too. Earning a silver medal in any sport is an accomplishment to be proud of and they were not gracious at all. I felt the same way when Plushenko and Mao Asada received their medals.

Agree. One of my kids said they were acting just like that Russian skater that the media blasted for acting so childish and bratty. Then, the announcers found it perfectly acceptable when the US hockey team acted that way.

I interpreted and excused their sullen faces as exhaustion and shock, it's hard to turn off your emotions so quickly after a long, fast paced event such as hockey, specially under those last minute circumstances.

For me, that game felt like a Stanley Cup game, you get the gold or you
don't. It's not like an event where you could be 5th but suddenly you are 2nd and get a silver, you're elated.

I didn't see the medal ceremony for the men's hockey team, but you all echoed my thoughts from watching the US women's hockey team during their ceremony. Here is what I posted about it last week:

"My only complaint was with the US team's demeanor before and during the presentation of the silver medals. Nobody "lost" the gold. The US team won the silver. They should have been proud of that acheivement. Many other teams would have gladly traded places with them."

Strange, even though I wrote it about the women, it clearly describes the men as well.

I understand Team US's disappointment. It was a difficult game to lose. But the fact that these men are professionals, was why I would have expected them to be a little more gracious in accepting their Silver Medals. Especially with the whole world watching.

I agree with Ann. I also believe that when it comes to the Olympics, everyone, pros and amateurs alike, should be held to a higher standard.

The Olympic Creed is used during the opening ceremonies of all modern Olympics and it is as follows:

I think the US Hockey teams might need to read the creed before participating next time.

Jo, that is ny point exactly. They are pros who should have been able to get their head around it but they are big time money pros, NHL stars, who only know about win. It's where their heads are.

I wish we could have the junior teams play at the Olympics. These guys hadn't even practiced together as a team until a few days before the games.

Thats why I like ladies hockey better, they are a real team.....but it was still a hell of a game and we were well entertained.

How you feel about winning a particular medal is a relative thing. Going in to a competition expecting to win nothing, you would probably be elated to win Bronze. Going into the same competition expecting to take Gold and ending up with Bronze, that's a completely different feeling.

Not that I'm excusing anyone, just that I can completely understand. It's human to feel disappointed when losing a hard fought game.

On the other hand, do ya just LOVE Apolo Ohno? He got disqualified in that final round in the 500 meter when he could have won silver. I'm CERTAIN he was disappointed, and he made some remarks regarding the fact that he disagreed with the judges' decision, but he still smiled and said how he had no regrets and felt that he'd had a successful and satisfying time.

And speaking of speed skating controversial decisions, the judge who disqualified the Chinese team in the women's relay received threats on his LIFE! How's that for sportsmanship?

Ah well, it's over. It was great fun to watch. Congratulations to ALL the winners. Looking forward to the summer games in London in 2012.

I wish the olympics was on for another week. We are suffering from withdrawal.

May, If what I read was accurate, Opolo thought that the Canadian judge was biased in disqualifying him.

It was nice to see him come back though and win a medal in the relay.

The threat to the Australian judge that disqualified the women's Korean team wasn't an athlete. I think he was just a citizen of Korea.

He did make some remarks that could have been interpreted that way. Maybe that is what he meant. But he didn't come right out and say anything like that in plain words.

I can imagine how he felt, and that he might have easily felt there was bias. But I think he was careful not to just come out and say that. Like I said, his words could have been interpreted that way, though.

As far as the threat, I didn't know who made it, didn't think it was an athlete and didn't mean to imply that. I just found it shocking.

I must say it was a Fantastic game, but did anyone notice that the puck went of the refers skate, and that is how "Crossy" ended up with the puck, in order to score the winning goal. My husband noticed it when he replayed the goal. No one even noticed that, nor did any commentator mention it. If you replay the goal.....you will see that. Not that it matters. Just interesting how it wasn't mentioned at all. I must say that both teams played well, and I think that all should be proud !!! Diana55
