I've always hated grey, so why am I considering it?
Comments (25)Susanilz5, I could have written your original post! That's exactly how I have been feeling! 10 years ago, I would not even use taupe inside my house because it looked gray! Every light tile I brought home I didn't like because there always seemed to be a gray undertone. I didn't use white fixtures in my bathroom because I thought they looked gray instead of white! I picked out some paint chips today in the gray family, showed them to my sister and she got a funny look on her face and said, "They're too gray! That's not you!" I told her "Gray is the new beige." I actually put a post on the kitchen forum about using a gray/blue/green with my oak cabinets and only got one response--SW's anew gray (which I haven't checked out yet). However, my dilemma would be transitioning from a gray room into my other warm colored rooms and how to make that work. I'm not sure I'm capable, but I think I could get by using it in a bathroom or bedroom because they are destination rooms and not rooms connected to multiple rooms like a kitchen or family room might be. Good luck! I'll be anxious to see your results....See MoreIt's time to chose paint for the foyer
Comments (12)Hi Brutuses, I remember your new home plans and it is going to be beautiful;-) I try to incorporate into my foyer color elements from all of the rooms it opens onto; for example, my current foyer leads to LR straight ahead (and you go right through to doors to patio- southern style). Slate floor in foyer. Some of the slate color will be in LR, and LR colors have been brought into foyer (curtains, pillow on bench). I haven't painted the walls yet, but when I do it's going to be a caramel color with a RL glaze we did on the back of the LR bookcase. The ceiling of the foyer will be a lightened version of the wall color in the LR. The foyer also opens to the kitchen and hall that leads to bedrooms. Kit will be in a green that picks up the green in the slate floor, and the cabinets are RL Cottonwood, which picks up the caramel in foyer paint. Hall is going to be a very light blue grey with ivory wainscoting. That was a little too much info, eh? I get a little into this color thing, sorry:-) Have fun with it- and I am so excited to see your home when it is done....See MoreBM Color Samples are not the same as "Paint", lack binding agent
Comments (72)I am just here to say that.... wow. I found this thread an hour ago via a Google search. BM has samples 50% off right now for 1/2 a pint so its like 2.99 a piece and with Free Shipping.. Sounded like a really good deal, as i paid $18 (on sale, in addition to borrowing my dad's small discount he recieves for using his store loyalty rewards card) for a pint this morning of another equally consistently good paint that ive used. I have been flipping furniture and doing a lot of DIY type things, as well as am an artist with an educational background in color and how paints have historically been created (and marketed)- for extra money since the pandemic happened. And yes - paint has gotten so expensive. I understand the quality and work that goes into developing the higher end paints and the skill in those that use it for way bigger jobs than i do. And in totally respect that. But In regards to what I need it for- I simply cannot pay $30-80 a quart. I will buy samples and mess-ups all day long as cheap as I can find them. I will literally choose the color I am going to use based soley on what's cheapest. And that's only because this is like a hobby that occasionally will make me some really good extra money. I don't depend on it as my main job- so I'm definitely not in the same position many of you are. But when I saw the discrepancy in price, it made me pause and do some googling. i think i typed in "why are bm samples so cheap and are they the same paint they sell?" And the very first link Google gave me was this thread. I have learned more in the last 1.5 hours (9 years for you guys) about paint most people will ever know. Like, EVER. Y'all are some dedicated and highly intelligent people and I never knew there was so much misinformation to customers, unregulated practices among businesses, opposing opinions among companies and professionals, nor did i know there were people like Lori who is still showing up after 9 years to answer people's questions and provide answers and solutions. I'm just very impressed with this whole thread right now. I work in the Anti-trafficking movement and I though we were persistent 🤣 It's just super cool to see people caring so much about their work, each other, their industry and its just nothing like I ever would've expected. keep up the good fight. We'd love to have some of you bring this dedication and commitment to excellence and holding your industry accountable on over to help us fight. We could all learn from folks like you 🥰...See MoreHelp with Paint Color Please! (SW vs BM) - pictures attached!
Comments (46)Zory, there is definite contrast, enough that you know the walls are not painted the same color as the trim. But it’s not super high contrast. I am going to attach a few photos. They are not ideal but I am out of town and these are the best that I have on my camera currently. I could take some better ones for you if I were at home. My kitchen cabinets are painted the same color as my trim and my ceiling is painted Heron Plume like my walls. If you focus on areas where you can see the white trim or cabinets next to the painted wall or ceiling, hopefully you will get an idea of what it looks like....See Moremarkland
