Losing my mind! What BM paint finish to use?
Comments (23)Here's my disappointing update--I had my painter drive 40 minutes to the paint shop best known for matching colors. There was one guy in the store that was the "expert" at matching the aura colors. We tried 10 different shades, and none of the aura paint could match the regular BM colors that i had selected. A huge waste of time and money. Worst yet, I am back to square one, banging my head on the wall trying to determine a paint finish. My husband says just go with the eggshell, but I don't like sheen. If I do go with the BM Regal Matte, will the match the ounce size BM "Access" colors that I selected? (I am hoping that most of the issues people have had with the BM Matte is due to dark colors burnishing? Does that sound likely or just wishful thinking??) Thanks for your input....See MoreI've always hated grey, so why am I considering it?
Comments (25)Susanilz5, I could have written your original post! That's exactly how I have been feeling! 10 years ago, I would not even use taupe inside my house because it looked gray! Every light tile I brought home I didn't like because there always seemed to be a gray undertone. I didn't use white fixtures in my bathroom because I thought they looked gray instead of white! I picked out some paint chips today in the gray family, showed them to my sister and she got a funny look on her face and said, "They're too gray! That's not you!" I told her "Gray is the new beige." I actually put a post on the kitchen forum about using a gray/blue/green with my oak cabinets and only got one response--SW's anew gray (which I haven't checked out yet). However, my dilemma would be transitioning from a gray room into my other warm colored rooms and how to make that work. I'm not sure I'm capable, but I think I could get by using it in a bathroom or bedroom because they are destination rooms and not rooms connected to multiple rooms like a kitchen or family room might be. Good luck! I'll be anxious to see your results....See MoreBM Color Samples are not the same as "Paint", lack binding agent
Comments (72)I am just here to say that.... wow. I found this thread an hour ago via a Google search. BM has samples 50% off right now for 1/2 a pint so its like 2.99 a piece and with Free Shipping.. Sounded like a really good deal, as i paid $18 (on sale, in addition to borrowing my dad's small discount he recieves for using his store loyalty rewards card) for a pint this morning of another equally consistently good paint that ive used. I have been flipping furniture and doing a lot of DIY type things, as well as am an artist with an educational background in color and how paints have historically been created (and marketed)- for extra money since the pandemic happened. And yes - paint has gotten so expensive. I understand the quality and work that goes into developing the higher end paints and the skill in those that use it for way bigger jobs than i do. And in totally respect that. But In regards to what I need it for- I simply cannot pay $30-80 a quart. I will buy samples and mess-ups all day long as cheap as I can find them. I will literally choose the color I am going to use based soley on what's cheapest. And that's only because this is like a hobby that occasionally will make me some really good extra money. I don't depend on it as my main job- so I'm definitely not in the same position many of you are. But when I saw the discrepancy in price, it made me pause and do some googling. i think i typed in "why are bm samples so cheap and are they the same paint they sell?" And the very first link Google gave me was this thread. I have learned more in the last 1.5 hours (9 years for you guys) about paint most people will ever know. Like, EVER. Y'all are some dedicated and highly intelligent people and I never knew there was so much misinformation to customers, unregulated practices among businesses, opposing opinions among companies and professionals, nor did i know there were people like Lori who is still showing up after 9 years to answer people's questions and provide answers and solutions. I'm just very impressed with this whole thread right now. I work in the Anti-trafficking movement and I though we were persistent 🤣 It's just super cool to see people caring so much about their work, each other, their industry and its just nothing like I ever would've expected. keep up the good fight. We'd love to have some of you bring this dedication and commitment to excellence and holding your industry accountable on over to help us fight. We could all learn from folks like you 🥰...See MoreBM Maritime White paint color in North facing room?
Comments (12)The floors are red oak with the natural stain, so fairly light. The rug is a light sage color with off white border. End tables and television stand are a light walnut color. The walls have always been Glidden Antique White with white baseboards and door casings. This paint color actually looks okay, especially at night. Since it hasn't been painted in many years though, I was thinking it might look better, in the daytime anyway, if the walls were not as light and there was a little more contrast between the walls and the trim....See Moremarkland
