mirror and pendant choices
I have tile, paint, flooring, sink & baseboards either in place or on order for powder room renovation. The room is a 4' x 7.5' rectangle, with the sink on one 4' wall and the toilet on the other 4' wall. The wall behind the sink will be tiled, the other three painted. My final choices are about my pendants and my mirror.
1. I was originally going with wood framed mirror, but now thinking a frameless mirror would be a better fit. With the pendants & tile, I was thinking simpler might be more suitable. Would love opinions!
2. I've been looking for diffuse lighting to flank the mirror. I really like these Hudson pendants, but they are $$. However they seem just the right size (skinny), style mix (not too modern, not too traditional), and I much prefer a chain over a rod or wire. That's a hard combo to find! I know it's a personal question, but is lighting where you'd "break the budget" in a powder room?
Once all the fixtures are in, I do intend to add a little color via artwork and a ceramic stool to house the basket of bathroom necessities. I think...but more on that later!

Comments (18)For the uplight, you could go a few routes, especially with respect to dimming functionality. And some fixtures don't support dimming, so you need to figure that out. To that end, I suggest you think through the use cases. For example, the use case that I think I'd appreciate most is late evening, after you've retired to another room of the house, at which time a mellow indirect glow from the skylight cutout would be particularly pleasant. You might also want the more light from this source on occasion, in which case you'd want brighter lights on a dimmer. That being said, here's some options. I'm thinking two, centered on the skylights, mounted near the bottom rim of the cutout (just above the beam probably). Regarding the pendant, I know that selecting pendants is hard enough without more to think about, but one downside of a single pendant vs multiple pendants is thhat single sources create worse shadows. And the clear glass pendants above exacerbate this harsh shadow problem by being point sources, whereas the Fillsta, for example, mitigates this problem because it's effectively a uniform 31" sphere of light. This large diffuser also makes it possible to use a brighter source. For example, you could put a 300W equivalent CFL in the Fillsta, but such a bright light would be unacceptably harsh in a point source like the clear glass pendants above....See MoreKitchen Pendants- Which pendant light for this kitchen?

Comments (10)Thanks, the other toilet option is the Toto Eco Soiree, which is more neutral looking, and also fits the toilet nook space well (I'm going for a short front-to-back distance) Having a hard time getting a photo, here's a link to it. Good points! I looked at Memoirs Stately too, but it has the same trim detail and it's a couple hundred more that I could spend elsewhere in the room. To me the more modern one is either a hand (unappealing) or tree branches (appealing). It's probably a long shot. I scoped Etsy but think these might be too big (squares) and I'm not 100% about the spirals. I'm not quite done, but here's where we're at! Need some artwork and a few minor tweaks, but I think it came together pretty nicely! Thanks again for all the advice. Sorry for the lousy iPhone pic...when it's 100% done I'll try and upload nicer ones.
