Tub/shower combo or tub and shower stall
Comments (15)I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Comments (2)Handshowers that come with Roman tub faucets are not for use in a shower situation with a drop in tub. They are for cleaning the tub or rinsing shampoo out of the hair of a seated bather. If you wanted a tub/shower unit, you would have needed to have designed the installation as such from the beginning and used a tub that was designed with an integral tile flange and then used a wall mounted tub/shower type of faucet instead of a deck mounted Roman tub faucet. Those tub/shower types of whirlpools are usually designed for alcove installation where a glass door can work with them just fine. But, since you've already put in what you have, the only way to use safely such a tub as a shower without setting yourself up for a lot of water damage is to do a "ring" shower curtain like you would for the old fashioned claw foot tubs. It's basically a rectangular suspended curtain rod that you use shower curtains with. A glass door of any variety will not work in your situation, as it will not keep the water off of the tub deck and walls, which is the big danger with using a drop in tub in such a situation. The water that splashes on to the walls and deck has no way to drain back into the tub because the lip of the drop in interferes. The water has to go somewhere, and that usually is your floor or into the walls and deck surround. This makes for a nasty moldy rotten mess in a few years....See MoreTub/Shower Sliding Door...or Shower Curtain?
Comments (14)We put in the clear shower doors available at Lowes and love them. We squeegee each time and wipe the shower control and tracks with a towel. DH is actually so into it that if I take a shower and fail to do the job, he mentions it. I never thought I would be a squeegee person. I am always in a hurry, but I can do this in less than one minute. Less than one minute to help avoid hours of shower scrubbing. A no-brainer. In my hall bath, I wouldn't let the man put shower doors back in. The tracks got in the way of the Little Girl sitting on the edge of the tub to shave her legs, the shower/toilet area is tiny anyway, and there is little room to maneuver. So, I bought a couple of nice terry (white) shower curtains from HomeGoods. They always have nice and inexpensive shower curtains and other bath supplies. I keep it open so the room doesn't close in on you. Red...See MoreBathtub shower doors vs. shower curtain, what are pros and cons?
Comments (3)If little kids in the house I'd definitely go shower curtain. If there is a separate master bath, I'd also go with a curtain (in the non-master bath) - I'm tired of cleaning my glass shower surround. A curtain you just throw away/replace or put in the washing machine, so easy. Also I hang lots of things to dry from the shower curtain rod - you lose that functionality with glass doors. I guess non-track glass doors is a higher end look but I live in a HCOL area and the kids' full baths almost always have curtains, no glass. (To sum up: get what you like!) :)...See Morewildchild
