About viewing streaming movies on TV

Just a couple questions about using a dv6835nr HP laptop computer to stream Netflix movies on a TV screen. First when I plug the VGA cable into the computer that goes to a Grandtech PC to TV converter, the desktop on the computer goes into like a safe mode and the icons all rearranges themselves and get very large. When I unplug the cable after the movie is over, it goes off the safe mode, the icons goes back to their normal size, but they do not go back to their normal arrangement. Is there a way to keep the icons from moving? The audio cable goes directly from the computer to the TV but when the movie is playing there is a noise, like the wind blowing in the audio background that makes listening very difficult. It has the same sound if headphones are plugged directly into the computer or listening to it through external computer speakers, while in these cases the video is excellent on the TV screen. The audio and video is both great if watching the movie on the laptop with no converter. Are these problems to be expected when using a converter?
