First off lets get one thing perfectly clear I have NEVER claimed to be the ONLY person here HELPING, how absurd. I volunteer on numerous wonderful support/help forums with a multitude of absolutely wonderful knowledgeable people this one included. I never advise anyone to do or use something that I would not use myself and that will NOT change. And any time I see one recommended that I know has some problem I WILL with out doubt provide that info so that any person considering it will have full info to make an informed decision on that program themselves, with full knowledge. And I appreciate it when someone who knows something negative about a programs speaks up and provides that info, it is how we learn. IObit has been found guilty of several thefts of program material over the years this theft of malwarebytes is just one more. NOT the kind of people I want to entrust ANY ones pc to. You guys are the greatest. What a wonderful, helpful community (and frankly, just what I needed after a very tough week of people being difficult, unhelpful and irresponsible). Thanks. I love the tutorials for Audacity - and will probably want to play around with that some. But before I got those responses, I did some more searching and found a very simple program called MP3 Key Changer. It allows you to save up to 3 versions for free - so that will suffice for my daughter's purposes of creating one higher pitched and one lower pitched version. The free version may also save only a portion of the song - but my daughter only needs a few bars, not the whole song. The full software costs $45. So if we want further transposing, I think we'll learn Audacity. Quicken has a wide range of budget and spending analysis tools built in. There's nothing easier or better that I know of. Do you already have your financial accounts set for auto downloading? Bank accounts, charge accounts, investment accounts, etc.? Do you update at least several times per month and promptly review the transactions to correct categorization? You should, you should and you should, and with that, you'd have a budget set up and ready to work with in less than 30 minutes. A budget to spending analysis has two inputs - your budget by category and then actual amounts. If you're using Quicken correctly (and there are plenty of shortcuts to take, it's not like you need to track every penny), with their choices of tools for setting up budgeting, almost all the work is done for you. Keeping my records current and reviewing activity takes me 10 minutes a week or less, although my situation isn't very difficult. If you don't want to use the built in budgeting features, then do a simple budget with pencil and paper and use Quicken's monthly spending reports by category to compare actuals to your budget. For PC based software, do you remember Microsoft Money? How about Managing Your Money? Both of these, and a number of others, came and went because consumers found Quicken to be a superior product. As with most other categories, I'm sure there are some open source programs available, but for as cheap and as good as Quicken is, i wouldn't waste your time.
