I am sending prayers for your mother. I was very close to my mother and she didn't let us know how sick she was until it was about 6 months before she died. I still miss her and frequently think I should pick the phone up and give her a call.

Your mother, your sister and you will all be in my thoughts and prayers Eileen. I know that the fact that you were not close doesn't make this any easier.

I'm so sorry to read this...It doesn't matter that you and your Mother are close or not. I agree that it is still hard when relatives, siblings or parents get sick. I hope that she will be ok.

I think of DS every morning as I have my coffee. I hope his dreams are going to turn out as he had planned.

Hey, Barnmom, I am just catching up with this post now. I feel bad for Dan. What a disappointment. I hope whatever the problem, it will be solved and they can sail on.

I love my mom so much. We used to have difficult relationship, but after a couple family crises we grew very close. It's so hard to deal with our elderly parents as they are not ready to stop being the one in charge. I hope the tests show something that can be dealt with without too much difficulty.

I'll be thinking of all of you. Let us know what's what.

So sorry to hear about DS's trip.

I sent you an email re: your mom. If the colonoscopy doesn't show anything...try to have her get an MRI defecography. Good thoughts coming your way.

The colonoscopy revealed cancer. "Lots," in the words of the caregiver, who hasn't left my mother's side. Sis is unable to go visit because she is quite sick with a virus. Sis and my mother are in towns 2 hours apart in Arizona. I am in California. Surgery is scheduled for this afternoon. My sister doubts that my mother will agree to chemotherapy. She is surprised that she agreed to the surgery.

The boat trip is still a possibility but not a certainty. The sailors are still in Ensenada awaiting boat repairs.

Update from my sis: The cancer was small. They resected 15 cm of transverse colon. She is in recovery. Much better news than I expected.

That is good news. I hope she recovers quickly and is back to being her old stubborn self!

Eileen, I'm glad to hear the news that it's not as bad as they thought it would be. Get your colonoscopy ASAP. Baselines are good to have in genetic cases of colon cancer.

good news for your mom....and fun times for the sailors!....but they ae likely thinking of other ports with great beer sunchine and pretty women.

I spoke with her this morning. Though we are not close, she has no understanding of my feelings. I am always polite and kind. I made my own peace about her many years ago and without her involvement. I think my perpetually calm demeanor when we are together might baffle her a little. As I cause no discord, it goes unremarked upon. Works for me.

She was in good spirits and comfortable as long as she doesn't move. I teased her that she cheated death once again. She agreed. :)

The sailors are looking forward to Carnaval festivities there in Ensenada. They are suffering so, ya know. ;)

As far as your mom goes, I'm glad the surgery went well and you are holding up as best you can. It is never easy when a parent is sick and when the relationship is strained to begin with it makes it even harder.
