I am glad things are OK.

I have heard of "Amazon" e-mails, as well as other prominent sites, being spoofed with harmful e-mails.

I have recommended users who have received "unexpected" or "concerning" e-mails from commercial sites they have registered to previously not to open the e-mail, but rather go directly to the site and log in to their account and check for status, or communication there.

Glad it all worked out for you, these are clever people and they can confuse the best of us at times.

On a similar note I allowed the 'telephone computer repair man' to continue talking to me about my problems as I was curious as to how they convinced people to agree to go with them. It was so easy, he led me through to my event viewer looking for error messages. All computers have a tiny glitch occasionally so they are confident you will find errors.

When I told him there were no errors he asked if I was a techie (I am not) so I said I was and he got upset asking why I led him along. He never even said goodbye before hanging up on me!

owbist one of my elderly neighbor ladies came to see me so worried she said that microsoft had called her to tell her that her pc is messed up and needed to be repaired and they could do it for her through the phone. She said no that can not be because I have someone that maintains it for me and she would have told me. Thankfully she hung up. I am of course the one she was referring to. But she was very upset wanting to know how they would know that her pc was messed up.
I explained it was a fraud/scam and never to fall for that just hang up on them. And if she was concerned to call me or come by.

It just really is a horrible thing that people will stoop so low in their lives to do this kind of stuff to poor unsuspecting people.

juneroses I am glad you had your AVAST to save the day. So many of the tactics today are very well done and fool the best of us.

In the past few days I have been visiting some "questionable" sites in hopes of finding a certain prescription drug for a friend at a reasonable price. It is an older generic drug, but is one that is suddenly in very short supply. To make a long story short, Avast and/or Chrome also warned me regarding two different sites before I proceeded to open them. I had deliberately disregarded WOT's ratings, knowing that they automatically condemn all foreign pharmacies. But these two sites obviously contained malware, or I would not have received the warnings.

Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in finding the medication at any of the foreign pharmacies except for one, and the price there was as expensive as it is at her local pharmacy. It's a darned shame that this is happening to people who need certain medications desperately. I understand that some cancer drugs are also in very short supply, or even unavailable.

By the way, there is an organization which rates foreign pharmacies, and using their rating, I was able to obtain a medication for myself at 1/3 the cost in the US, even with my Medicare insurance plan. These pharmacies do require a prescription from your physician and will not ship without such.

Grandms, some drug companies if you go to their website will sometimes allow you to get that drug at a discount. It may require some paperwork but it can be done with some. I know I did it for my daughter. Can't hurt to visit their site and send a email their way and ask etc ... good luck

If "Microsoft" calls (usually and East Indian voice) and tells you that your computer is messed up, tell them you have an Apple computer and it doesnt use Windows..then hang up
