unable to do a clean install of Windows

Acquired a Dell XPS 400 computer which was free only if I was to remove the original HD and destroy it in front of the widow of the original owner. So, I bought a new WD HD and installed it. I have been unsuccessful in doing a clean install of Windows XP Pro on this new HD. It starts up loading files and when it gets to the part that Windows is Ready to Start, I get the BSOD with a Stop Error of 0x0000007E with PCI system address F748EOBF at base F7487000. According to the widow, the computer was functioning fine prior to her spouse passing on. I tried a spare HD and the same problem occurs. Tried SATA drivers when clicking on F6 during installation, no help. Ran WD's diagnostic CD for their HD's and it was good. Bios setup shows the correct information for the new HD. Cleaned connectors to RAM, Optical drives and video cards. No go. Ran MemTest 86 on RAM for 4 hours and they were fine. I have also cleared CMOS and set up to restore Defaults settings. Anyone have any suggestions at this point? thanks.

What did you use to install windows xp ?

Thanks Mikie for your response. My original disc was just Winidows XP Professional 32 Bit. When I switched to a disc I burned a few years back only slipstreaming SP-2 on the disc, it got rid of my BSOD. I also had to load the SATA drivers for the computer from the Dell Support site. My machine is up and running great.

Sapphires, go ahead and update your ZA as the update has the fix for the problem encountered with the MS update. Then reboot. Hopefully, when you attempt the Java update, ZA will ask if you want it allowed. Check for it to be allowed and for ZA to remember this setting. That should take care of the problem for you.

RE: windex foam cleaner that's attached to a garden hose- we live in a rural area and the outside faucets have hard water and I tried that and it was a disaster. RE: Windex outdoor cleaning pad - I made a modified version that worked for me. I took a bucket of vinegar water and an microfiber cloth put it on a swifter broom mop. It worked great. I rinsed the cloth after each window. Not perfect, but for a quick clean up it worked rather well. I hate to wash windows so it only gets done once or maybe twice a year. It looks so much better when done tho. When the wind picks up the dust during in a rain shower on our windy rural hill it makes for a mess.

Thanks for your feedback, even though it had bad news. These windows are in a house I bought 9 months ago. It was the realtor who said I could have them cleaned. So no, I don't know who the manufacturer is. I looked all around the window for a brand stamp or something similar, but didn't find one. Is there anyway to find out who the manufacturer is/was? Other than the condensation, they look fairly new. These picture windows are approx. five feet wide and 3.5 feet high. What would replacing the IGU portionof each one cost? "See if you can ID who made the window and go about getting a warranty sash." Or call a local glass company for about $250 they will install a new pc of insulated glass. They will measure and install it. Or if your so inclined take the sash off, have them measure the glass at their shop, reinstall the sash, when the glass is in take it to them for the new glass, should be an hour or so of work. And your done!
