Try Opera9 It's where the browser world needs to be.... Gotta love that "top 10" listing and the fonts size selector and... well I swear, I was a netscaper for a long while too... But Opera did change my mind.... My rankings... 1) Opera 2) FireFox 3) Konqueror 4) Netscape7 oh , I forgot one 0) IE I like Konqueror a lot too, but unfortunately for M$Windoze fans it's a Linux only browser... Update: more trouble shooting led me to check the DSL speed. The download was about 7 Mbps, and satisfactory but the upload was as low as 80 Kbps - discussing with the Teleco technical support (Century Link) the evening of Thursday last, led to the diagnosis the Telephone modem was malfunctioning, in fact it completely stopped working on the power-down/up test. The CL representative could not provide any access to a replacement modem, but they would ship me one for $15 three days (bet business days, so not until Monday or Tuesday). They could ship overnight for $25. I told them ship 3 day I'm checking with Comcast an may move my service there. I up an running on Comcast at a so-called 105 Mbps which checks out closer to 15 mbps, about the same up/down. Not sure what the 105 Mbps is about. The good news cable, Comcast/Xfinity, was able via over the counter purchase at Walmart of a Cable Modem to put me back in service over my existing TV cable access in a matter of minutes. Down side, we don't want to change our email address. I will check to see how low a price I can get from Century Link and retain my email/ISP account. So far the browser works great.

I use Opera primarily and yes it does have a spell check built in from version 10 on. Aspell was fully compatible and worked fine in previous versions so Opera has had a spell check for, well I think I've used a spell check in it for nearly a decade now. It's an excellent spell check too at least for my use. So I primarily use Opera, and often use K-meleon and then comes Firefox. Never have tried Safari or Chrome but really no need to since I like these so much. Opera is the standard of comparison for great browsers. It's fast, well-equipped with features, including a mail client if you need it. It is the most customizable I've used. I like maximum screen space so I customize the toolbars to just be one, and be smaller so I see more of what I want to look at. And it's only about 6mb download for the whole browser! Updates on the Internet Elephant are sometimes 5 times that! K-meleon is based on the old Netscape Gecko engine and is extremely fast. It doesn't have the features of Opera but I like it for checking webmail. Also I have Opera set to kill off a lot of ads and occasionally I need to see something so I'll just open it in K-meleon or Firefox. Firefox is an interesting browser. It's open source and has many varieties. They use extensions, now called "add-ons" to add features. Many are gimmicks. But so many things like paste & go should be built into the browser and I don't like having to constantly update Firefox. Every week there's probably 3-5 updates to be downloaded. Not a major problem, but still a nuisance. But I do like the weather extensions for Firefox and a couple others. But it's much slower than Opera or K-meleon, although light years ahead of the Elephant. The best thing is to try out several. Give them a fair chance, at least a few weeks and do some research on tips and the like so you use it more fully. It took a long time to get used to all the advantages of Opera and I only use the Elephant now for Windows Update. Like I said you might find you like one for one purpose and another for another purpose. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you need a stove and sometimes you need a refrigerator!

I used Firefox with my Macbook for years because I was not happy with Safari. Recently I decided to give Safari another chance, and I have to say that I it has greatly improved and seems to meet all my online needs. As far as finding things, I'm assuming you are referring to the search engine you are using (Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Bing, etc.) and not the browser (Safari, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). If that is what you mean, you can easily change the default search engine that Safari uses when you type a topic into the address bar. To make this change, simply go to Preferences in Safari, which is found in the dropdown menu under Safari, as in the dropdown you use to quit the app. You have the choice of 4 or 5 search engines you can choose from. My thinking is that for most instances, Safari is going to be the best browser to use, simply because it was created explicitly for use on a Mac. But as some of the other responses indicate, I too keep a couple of other browsers in my dock should I run into any issues with Safari, which is my default browser. The default browser-the one that opens any random links you might click on when you are not online, and can also be easily changed in System Preferences. Sorry if this is way too basic for you...
