Sound problem

I have a sound problem which is quite limited in its effect. I suddenly realized there was a problem when a favourite program of mine stopped working - Serif's MoviePlus 5 (a digital video editing program). This program comes up with a message suggesting that I have no sound card - strange when all other programs such as Audacity, Skype, CD player can see and use the sound card quite happily. Then I noticed that Window's own sound effects had stopped working - e.g. the boot up jingle. I have checked through all aspects of the sound control settings to check that the sound side of things hasn't been turned off by mistake but all seems to be well. I have reinstalled the Serif program which has worked well for me for months but it still refuses to work.

The only addition that I have made to my system that could have changed things is a Logitech webcam. Is this known to upset things? Some help with this problem would be appreciated.

The ruling class needs to know a bit more. You have a lot of stuff there, and sound does drain performance...most people aren't aware of that. Sometimes sound will go out if your paging file (virtual memory) isn't large enough.

The most common problems, though, are lack of driver updates. It could be any one of thousand and one reasons.

To narrow it down, post your computer specs: OS, Hard Drive, Ram, Processor, and Graphics card. If you can, post what you have available after startup. There are some drainers out there.

The only addition that I have made to my system that could have changed things is a Logitech webcam. Is this known to upset things? Some help with this problem would be appreciated.

The easiest why to find out if your Webcam caused a conflict is to Restore to an earilier date in System Tools.
I would disconnect Webcam first.

I've been trying to find a video on http://www.williams-sonoma.com/ so I can see if it happens to an embedded Youtube video... but I must be blind, I can't find a one. :) But they do seem to make use of Youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0leeHDIvNgM) so I wouldn't be surprised if they host them on Youtube and simply embed them on their own site. If that's the case, I would suspect the embedded videos would suffer the same Youtube problem I quoted above. Have you tried un-muting the video? They start out silent/muted for me too, I have to hover over the video and click the volume slider to give it some volume every time I visit Youtube. And will have to until they fix it. The TV is model number: (60PP9100D/37) Sometimes the TV just shuts off by itself. My big problem is I was watching the TV one day and all of a sudden the sound went out and up popped an error code and then the TV shut off again. It is common for the audio to be a bit lower in volume on HD versus analog tv. But it is not normal to hear the hiss on HD channels. I doubt it is the TV. Most likely the cable feed. Just don't be surprised when the cable tv tech says something like "Everything is within spec".
