GE monogram dishwasher, Kitchen Aid, or...?

Does anyone have any experience with the Monogram dishwasher?

Our new kitchen will have 2 dishwashers. We ordered 1 Monogram D/W on the advice of our appliance salesman. However, having no experience with the Monogram, we're reluctant to put all our eggs in one basket. So, if you have the monogram, would you recommend it?

Alternatives we're considering for the 2nd D/W include the Kitchen Aid S series, K-Aid U series, and Bosch Integra 500 (husband not excited about filter and no drying element, though).

I highly recommend trying your dishes in the other options that could help be the deciding factor. That helped me figure out that the Monogram just wouldn't work with some of the things I washed most frequently. But the Kitchenaid KUDS03STSS worked beautifully. I got the model I got of the kitchenaid because the model with the 3rd rack did not allow my wine glasses to fit without my removing the 3rd rack. So that would have just been a waste (being the wine drinker that I am.)

I had a bad experience with the Bosch, returned it after 2 weeks and got a Kitchenaid. Bosch didn't meet my expectations for drying and had a funny odor (and yes, everything was installed correctly).

I expect that everybody has had a bad experience with one brand or another. My advice on that, is if you do end up with something you don't like it right away then RETURN it immediately. Why would you put up with something that costs this much $ unless you love it? That is what I did and am totally happy that I did so.

We have the Monogram DW for about 2 years now. Could not be more pleased with it. Dishes and pans are CLEAN without residue and without prewashing. The unit is nearly silent when running. I have to touch the handle to tell if its running....Clean simple lines work well in the kitchen. Don'e know what could be any better about it.

I think you will be glad to have saved a thousand. There is a visible bias in favor of Mi..le in many people's posts. Some even butt n on other people's thread to add a post to redirect the thread over to Mi..le although the question / thread was not about it. I've seen that happen often here. It bugs me. It's not respectful to anyone. They just post and say "Get a Mi..le" -- Huh? How does that help the original question about another product? Then, a bit later, someone else adds more in favor of Mi..le by saying, "I agree with so and so blah blah.." In previous lifetimes I have seen this kind of groupthink. I have also seen situations where people promote one particular product over all others --including going so far as to add misinformation about all other alternatives (that's dirty). After you scratch the surface it turns out they are getting some form of free product from an invisible sponsor. Freebies. Nobody says they are being sponsored, and they are right as they have no contract, but they all have such a positive attitude toward the provider of freebies that they even dip into dirty tricks to foible reasonable information about reasonable competitors. This happens. Just figuring this may help you keep a clear mind. (Happy new year.) On the other hand, posts like yours above that start out in favor of Product X can easily end up turning out to conclude in favor of Product Y. I've seen that happen several times, in other places. Perhaps you will conclude in favor of Mi..le too. If so, I think that's great too. They are all good products. I'm not against Mi.le; I'm in favor of their products. HTH -David

Please don't type in all caps. Its considered yelling. I was looking at these two models too. I'm leaning away from the KitchenAid (assuming you are looking at the new Architect II models) because they are much lower in power (watts) in each of the modes (bake, broil, convection). For the price difference, the Monogram seems to me a better choice.

Maggie, nine years ago I bought the totally untested Thermador Freedom Series Columns. I picked them over the SubZero because they were the first to lift the interior and get rid of the ventilation panel overhead -- something I really hated about the old built-ins, but it also meant the bottom drawer wasn't nearly on the ground and in the freezer the ice was at a convenient height (had two kids in marching band -- we went through at least 2-3 gallons of ice every day during marcing season. Nine trouble free years later, I have no hesitation recommending Thermador (which includes Bosch, Miele and Gaggenau). And I got one of the first ones -- before the bugs were worked out. SubZero is the other top name for full size built in refrigeration with KA being a not to distant 2nd (but chek the opening of the drawers - required a more than 90 deggree open door back then - don't know if it's better now). For undercounter, it's SubZero, Perlick and maybe Uline.

I love, love, love my Monogram DF range. Almost always use the small oven (roast veggies every evening for dinner) and it heats to 400 in under 10 minutes. Exterior door surface stays cool to the touch, you would never know the oven was on if it wasn't lit up and you didn't check the dial. Exhaust is at the top rear so it doesn't exhaust the heat out at you (it's angled slightly toward the burners so doesn't go straight up to the backsplash either). And the full extension oven racks are the bomb. If I had it to do all over again I would pass on the griddle as I've never gotten the hang of seasoning it properly. The grill is great and I use it a lot. I like that there are two separate timers, one for each oven (some ranges we looked at didn't have dual timers). The rangetop has pretty cool reversible grates for wok cooking but I've never tried those myself as I'm not a wokker. On the purely cosmetic side, I think it's nice looking. And the decorative LED running lights look pretty groovy at night. :) Lastly, we had a good service experience. Ours was cosmetically damaged (dented) at the bottom corner when being unloaded from the delivery truck at our home when the dolly was set wrong and they tried to tilt up at the toe plate. It took GE a couple of months, maybe it was 10 weeks, to replace the damaged plate because of some kind of issue with backorder. Not a huge deal because it wasn't a performance problem but we were kinda bummed since it was a brand new range with a dent on the bottom ... so then GE gave us a complimentary 5-year extended warranty because of the delay. We were very satisfied with how they handled that, and we would definitely buy GE again.

We put two Jenn Air JDB1100AWS dishwashers in our new kitchen and have been very happy so far. They are huge and have both a grinder and heater, unlike the Bosch dishwasher we had in our previous place. The external look is very Euro, like the Bosch, but they wash and dry much better. And the price was right.

Thanks for the feedback, jc. I'm feeling a bit better about the Monogram (that is already on order). For whatever reason, I simply haven't been able to find much owner input on them online.

We still think we'll go with 2 different models, and I'm still considering the K-Aid as the 2nd. None of the appliance stores in our area have the KA on the floor, so unfortunately, I can't test them with our dishes. Does anyone know the clearance from the middle rack to 1) the cutlery tray and 2) the ceiling of the DW with the cutlery tray removed?

Also, I read in one thread here that the K-Aid with the integrated panel won't be flush with other cabinetry. Is that true? I can't imagine why that would be.
