Libby you can indeed do that yourself and save the money. Disk cleanup provided by Microsoft does a reasonable job but Crap Cleaner will do an amazing job for you. Then you can do the defrag by clicking Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Defrag.

Than once it is squeaky clean you do a tune up by could visiting PC Pitstop and run the full suite of tests to see if anything needs adjusting. Once completed click on each red or yellow flag for their comments and suggestions. Do not allow them to make the alterations or they will need money.

It would be interesting to get a list of the 100 system tweaks they do to optimize your PC's performance.
If you run the Registry Cleaner under Issues in CCleaner (crap cleaner) to remove the remnants of old software & files, there could easily be a 100, so maybe they would count as individual tweaks.
I don't know of a 100 different tweaks to perform in Windows, it sounds misleading to me.

So Disk Cleanup doesn't remove everything?! GRRR I just did this last night & it took more than 5 minutes. I hadn't done it in a while though I try to remember to run that & immediately after that a defrag, every 3 months.

Another good program that I use and recomment highly is Advanced Windows Care which does everthing that CCleaner does and more. It scans for spyware, checks your startup, checks systems, cleans registry, etc., etc. It is free also. Be sure to click on "Get Freebie".

Sounds like CCleaner and/or AWCP are must haves. Grandms, are you sure CCleaner isn't needed if one has/uses AWCP?

I have both and use both, but even after using CCleaner, AWCP always finds a few more registry items to fix. However, I also have Reg Supreme, which I purchased several years ago, and it finds still more in the registry to clean. Just like the spyware scanners, each one finds things the other misses. But if you prefer to have just one program of that type, I'd recommend Advanced Windows Care because it does so many things to optimize your computer. There is a paid version also, called AWCProfessional, but the Personal version is the freebie.

When going to CCleaner.com to get a copy of the cleaner I end up with a program called: pcregistryCleanerV2.exe, is this the aforementioned cleaner?

After jumping though some "hoops" to get the "free" download I find myself on a "download site", Hippopotamus (or something) as I recall. This all make me nervous/uncomfortable about turning the ".exe" file loose.

Thanks, I downloaded and ran a check...it found a bunch of "stuff", I haven't yet cleaned.

I'll take another look at AWCP and see about getting it. All these "freeware" sites seem to be rather contorted on how one downloads freeware. But I guess this is all about getting funds somewhere, selling other stuff, advertisements and the like.

Ran CCleaner, it found a "bunch of stuff", I said fix. Hope all is better.

Then I used Advanced Windows Care 2, best I can tell this is what was recommended in this thread. I ran it and it found thousands of items, "unprotected" and the like, but it was no obvious to me what one does with this information. There didn't seem to be an "easy" button to get the AWC2 to take some/any action.

With Advanced Windows Care V2 Personal, you just hit the Scan button. When it is done hit the Repair button.
