Washing Machines : Front Loader vs Top Loader?
Comments (53)FL vs TL debate will continue LOL I am 60 years old and always used a TL until recently. When after two ddeliveries of Speed Queens proved to be lemons...I decided to take the leap and buy a Whirlpool Duet FL. ..lets back up a bit....I had a routine in my TL'ers...I always added boiling water after the load was started and filled with hot..for whites, bedding, bath, and kitchen towels by dumping soup pots of boiling water into the machine to boost the temp...that started to really become a chore for this old carcuss to cart those heavy pots, I started dreaming of a FL'er with a onboard heater. The more I thought about it the more desirable it sounded..BUT I was concerned about low water levels, HE detergent, and reports of mold....but this heater was really getting my attention. ..than the good folks in the Laundry forum started nudging me towards a FL...I was scared, understand laundry is my thing..I enjoy laundry and all the challenges it can present...so I gave up my ocean of water for a heater...I can now choose between cold (I dont use cold) to hot, and I am talking 154+F...and everything inbetween......no more pots of boiling water. My textiles are clean, stain free, soft, fluffy and so fresh smelling, with much less work on my part. As far as moldy machines..it only takes a few seconds to wipe out the door seal and leave the door open when not in use. The use of hot water at lead t for your whites and bedding will also keep the machine clean. I won't go back to a TL'er....my whites have never been more white....See MoreHE Top Loader (w/o agitator) not cleaning. What should I get instead?
Comments (203)Faith M....glad you’re loving your set as well! Ours does not get too loud in the spin cycle...it’s actually much more quiet than our previous Frigidaire Affinity washer on spin cycle. Just a few very trivial caveats for me, I don’t like the tinted doors or lack of light in the washer. And I’d like a soak option. But those are not a big deal at all. This set really is terrific in many ways! Our whites are super bright too now that we have this set! Yes Tania, curious how you like yours?? :)...See MoreLG front loader burning smell with pics of motor
Comments (8)@dadoes it seems to be powder, like rust. My only guess was rust coming out with some sort of lubricant. The same powdery bits on the back panel I removed as well. Thanks for the description of how the assembly works beyond what I can see. I think I'll probably find a service manual before I tear into it. I have better guesses from what you said before I start on it. @ceilsan32 I think it is about 7 years old. I don't remember how long the warranty is on these things. On a tech, I'd rather spend the time repairing myself than everything involved with a 3rd party. This system appears to be fairly simple a motor that spins something without any goofy gearboxes. But I better see if the boss remembers if we have some crazy warranty. She is smart like that....See MoreMusty/moldy smell - can't find source
Comments (11)I know it may not seem systematic, but I've had my good friend who is a custom home builder out to the house 3 times. Like me, he's been unable to find anything with visual inspections of everything inside, outside, and in the attic. The mold remediation guy came on a day when the smell was strong and smelled it too, but there ended up being no mold detected even though he felt 'confident' there was a leak in the wall. The HVAC guy was a suggestion by the builder of this home. Even though the home was built 7 years ago, we remain friends and in touch so I reached out to him. He suggested the "dirty sock syndrome" even though I struggled with that explanation given the limited nature of the smell and it doesn't seem to emanate from any vents or HVAC equipment. I'm attaching pics of the gas line where it enters the house. I don't see any obvious issues but I'm not an expert. Do you have suggestions on who to call next? A plumber? Home inspector?...See Morebuildinginva
