I think I would like to take it along to use in hospital after hip replacement surgery. Won't be doing much, but I've read something small and easy to handle like this makes the time during rehab a little more tolerable. Just probably reading on GW, and email. Maybe a movie if I can figure out how to get it going.

I also like the keyboard, which can be used or not as needed. And the price is just right to not have to worry about anything happening to it while I am there. Rules are to "Never put anything valuable on the food tray." (smile) So does this look OK for what it is? Thanks.

I had hip replacement two years ago, and was in the hospital three nights, only because I didn't start PT the first day because my surgery was later in the day. Had I the surgery earlier in the day, I'd have only been there two nights. I would not worry about finding a way to spend the time, if I were you. You'll do PT and be exhausted by it.

And don't go into a rehab facility unless something is wrong, or if you have no help at all at home for a few days. Objective is to get home ASAP and stay active and heal. I was driving in three weeks, not even using a cane!

Some (older buildings) hospitals prohibit use of cell phones or electronic devices anyway. Best to ask about your hospital.

Good luck---you'll wonder why you didn't have the surgery sooner!

Planter_geek - not very polite to accuse someone trying to help you of spreading false information. I'm sorry but it isn't a false statement. It is a well researched and scientifically documented fact and has been common knowledge for many, many years. You need only Google "blossom drop" to review the research yourself. You will also find a great deal of discussion about it by the many professional growers on the Growing Tomatoes forum here. A search will pull up those discussions for you to review. As explained in the FAQ I referred you to explains, (did you read it?): "Blossom-Drop" is a condition suffered by tomatoes, peppers, snap beans, and some other fruiting vegetables where the plant blooms but fails to set fruit, the blooms die and fall off. It may be caused by the use of excess nitrogen fertilizers or dry windy conditions, but the most common cause is temperature extremes. Tomatoes, peppers and beans are especially picky about the air temps when it comes time to set fruit. If the night temps fall below 55 or rise above 75 or if the day temps are above 90, the pollen becomes tacky and non-viable. Pollination cannot occur. If the bloom isn't pollinated, the bloom dies and falls off. It also details the controls you can use tohelp. This does not mean that no fruit set at all will take place during the summer. After all it isn't above 90 degrees 24 hours a day. But it does mean that if the bloom matures and opens during that temp period the air temps will make the pollen tacky and not viable. The condition also varies somewhat according to variety. Perhaps your neighbors are growing some of the determinate heat-tolerant hybrids now available? You don't indicate what varieties you are growing or whether they are determinates or indeterminates. Makes a big difference. While I agree that your problem is likely compounded by the use of excessive nitrogen fertilizers, even if you eliminate that problem, the heat will still play a role in fruit set. That is the primary reason why so many Texas tomato growers - and we have many of them on the tomato forum - advocate earlier planting so to get some fruit set before the extreme heat begins. Since the plant must drain, the closure of the drainage hole(s) by its roots must be seen as trouble. It does appear the plant is crying out for a re-potting and since it is causing problems, the need to wait until spring sunshine is not what it should be waiting for; re-pot now. Make sure the soil drains well...but does retain some moisture. For that, possible use of a heavier than usual percentage of peat moss might be considered. It holds on to moisture longer and mixed with any of the good mediums....vermiculite, coarse sand, perlite and potting soil/mix the plant might do better. Repotting of course is going to show what extent the roots are in. If you are considering a total re-soiling, then I suggest you remove all the old soil, wash the roots clean and inspect for any sign of damage there. A barrier between the drainage holes and the soil will prevent somewhat the reoccurrence of the roots making it to the drainage holes. Stones of size, or shards of clay might be used. I like the broken clay shards because they leave important spaces so that water can drain well, yet block the path of soil that can plug up the hole. Go up one size only...repotting to a pot too large for the roots---even tho they have expanded--can cause future problems. Its alright to remove what roots are superfluous. Ferns, generally all, like their water and they can sometimes drop a measure of debris that makes the plant or the floor its sitting on, unsightly. But, in winter, even ferns don't grow all that much and need less water. A constant vigil by testing the soil dampness is one way to avoid underwatering/overwatering. Ferns too appreciate light....just not direct light. Give your plant more than usual at this time but give it a filter when the time comes the light intensity resumes. Mid February is the time we usually allow that plants begin to start growing. Its the time that geraniums and their ilk, come out of their cool storage to resume their voyage to summr sun. Until April tho, the sun takes its time to come up to light that influences greatly plants in windows and on window sills. Common sense should prevail. When it does begin to put on new growth in earnest, the time to begin feeding can resume. Fertilize every 3rd or 4th watering.

I looked into the product some more on other forums and it seems the best part is the the root fungi. There are a ton of mycorrhizal fungi products available, are these products worthwhile or do they also fall under snake oil category? My biggest current need was a fertilizer for sweet potatoes and regular potatoes I have coming and the only one that looked promising was a 8-20-30 from Steele Plant company, yet I was looking for an organic equivalent. I liked the idea that the root fungi supposedly increase fertilizer uptake since none I have found are close to that 8-20-30 value. As for the super tonic product above, I never noticed it initially but when looking for more info last night, all the comments are on marijuana growing forums. Kinda weird. I found a thread here on how to make compost tea with a bubbler over 3 days which sounds familiar to above product, so maybe that's all it is with some fungi added? PS- I apologize if I offended anyone but I was highly insulted when I finally make an account here to ask two questions, soil info for sweet potatoes and thoughts on a product, and one goes unanswered and the second get me someone calling me a moron spammer. Kinda made me regret even posting in first place. Thankfully, I got some good info from Al in container forum earlier today that made me happier!

It's warm here too, for December. I'm near Philadelphia. Most of my memories of last-minute Christmas shopping is freezing to death while running from the car to the mall. Not this year. We've had some chilly days and nights, but nothing bad. Of course, we had snow on Halloween, a flood and an earthquake this year, so maybe we will have a brown winter. I'd love that. It seems we do go through cycles of snowy winters, then non-snowy winters, so maybe we are due for no snow. I hope so, but I am not counting on it. The weather around here is generally more moderate. We don't have the extremes that others do. My least favorite weather is very humid. That's the worst. I even rather shovel snow, as long as the power stays on. Good luck to you who are freezing, drowning or snowed in!

Can't argue with the price, but the screen resolution is not great...about the same number of pixels as my cell phone, except my cell phone only has a 4" screen. If you want something much higher quality with a much better screen -- twice the resolution -- I'd suggest the Amazon Kindle for $200. It will likely also have better sound and faster wi-fi, and it has twice the memory. In addition, you get a free month of Amazon Prime, which means you can watch a lot of movies for free, and borrow lots of free books while you're recovering. The Kindle Fire warranty is probably better, too, and the tech support is excellent.

Don't get me wrong: the deal you found is quite good for what it is. I'm not trying to trash it. It's just that you can get a whole lot more by spending another $100.

Sounds great but be careful with it in the hospital and rehab. I would figure out a way to make it a lot of trouble for someone to steal it. Put it in an over night bag with a small lock on it and keep it by your bed. Keep it near the head of your bed. I was told they had a problem with theft. When I had surgery they took everything of value from me and gave me a receipt, I got my phone when I was awake so I could call a friend. I kept it on the tray table right by my head. I don't sleep well, so I woke when someone opened the door.

Emma, that's why I don't want to take anything more expensive. Not sure I'd even use it, but I've been reading a hip and knee replacement forum and it seems they all used them. DK, just a thought.

Thanks, Kudzu. That would make more sense but ...DH's cell phone disappeared in the same hospital two years ago and we never did find it. Thankfully, it was just a cheapie that was going bad anyway but with lots of minutes built up on the plan.

I broke my arm in three places that involved the shoulder just a bit. If I had not gone into rehab I would have lost some of the movement in my shoulder. In rehab you do movements you don't do in ordinary life. There is no way I could have put pressure on my shoulder and arm the way the therapist did. I had to go back one time and it only took 2 visits to break it loose again.
