Does my induction cooktop shut itself down?
Comments (16)They'll all shut down if they get too hot. This is why ventilation is critical. There has to be enough space around the unit inside the cabinet for air to flow. Secondly, I believe the newer units act differently from the units of over 20 yrs ago. The pulsing of the old units was much slower and therefore noticable whereas today the pulsing is very fast. Which now sounds like a 'ticking' or 'clicking', or at higher power a 'whine'. And if your lights are dimming, it's because the service is too small. It is trying to pull more current than the circuit is set for and is dropping the house voltage as a result. The CB doesn't trip because the unit is pulsing and not pulling a steady overload current. That is, a 30-amp breaker doesn't 'break' at 31 amps. It requires an over-amperage for a certian amount of time before tripping....See MoreDoes anyone have an induction cooktop that does NOT buzz or click
Comments (35)We have our first induction cooktop, a Wolf, after cooking exclusively on gas. the cooktop does not make the very annoying noise, but certain pans do. We have only Le Creuset and All Clad, both of which we were told were recommended for induction cooktops. No sound from the Le Creuset, but certain All Clad pans seem to be worse than others. In our experience the frying pans are the worst. Heavier pots and saucepans not as much. And, for whatever reason, one particular non stick pan was the worst of all, so we stopped using it because it was THAT ANNOYING....See MoreAnything you don't like about your induction range/cooktop?
Comments (29)Also have the GE Profile slide in and am very happy with it. At first I thought pressing of the buttons for temp control would be a pain, but I'm used to it now and with a nice smooth surface on the control panel cleanup is such a breeze. The oven is great too. I don't regret it. I personally like the look of those nice gas ranges with the big grates on them . I think they "look" great. But I was just at a neighbors house who owns one. It was dirty and I was reminded of how nice it is to have such ease clean up. I don't envy having to remove and scrub all those grates on a regular basis. I do wish I could slide it in a bit more. it does not sit flush with the cabinets even though it's back as far as it can be. Wasn't expecting that. I think if space allowed I'd want a 36" cooktop just to have a bit more roomy cooking surface, but honestly I can only think of a couple times that I've had to juggle things to make them fit. On a daily basis I use the front two burners 99% of the time w/o any issues....See MoreDid you buy an extended warranty with your induction cooktop?
Comments (15)Wow...that's rather odd that they chose not to showcase the Flex. We were fortunate to find a dealer/showroom 15 minutes away; and while they only had the 36 on display ( guess there's no wow factor in a 30!), it was good enough. Had we not been able to see it, I think we would still have made the purchase: the internet is so wonderful with all its high-res pics + GW forum comments/reviews...plus, I'm not super-super picky about how my appliances look (i.e., whether they match each other, etc.). Wall oven: trying to rile me, eh? ;) Well, this is in line w/ my funk about replacing appliances that function perfectly well. Decided to bite the bullet and replace old built-in microwave and wall oven (since we decided on cooktop + ventilation, and might as well take advantage of the Bosch rebate). We're almost empty nesters, and wouldn't use the large oven daily/weekly. But I bake a ton for friends, family, etc., so needed a basic wall oven (standard 30" stainless steel..with the knobs -- didn't need convection and didn't want to pay extra for telescoping racks). Would have stuck with a basic microwave (and perhaps have looked at Sharp), but a friend explained how a speed oven works (which, up to that point, was an appliance I completely ignored any discussions about). With the speed oven in convection mode, it basically functions as a smaller oven: perfect for our day-to-day use. I figured the energy we'll save NOT firing up a wall oven to bake 2 potatoes will make up for the additional cost down the line. And even if it's not substantial, I'll feel better about using a properly sized oven for smaller dishes....See Morejr33176
