Input on final white wainscott bathroom touches?

You all have been so helpful, so I'm here again. We are going with a classic white bathroom for our guest/hall/kids bathroom. We decided on wainscotting with ceramic octagon tile for the floor in white (1 inch) with a line of black octogans as border. Porcelein pedastal sink. As this bathroom will also have a shower/bath, we are doing the surround in subway tile (white of course!).

I'm struggling with accent in the shower..any thoughts or just stick with all white. We will paint above the wainscott (green,etc) so it won't be so boring, but color of course can change from time to time.

PS Anyone have trouble with wainscott in a bathroom with shower/lots of moisture?

I don't have any help to offer, but we are also redoing our master bath right now, and we are expecting to put wainscoting in, too. My sense is that there is often a wood vanity in a bathroom. Our old vanity (after 30 years) definitely needed sanding and refinishing (but we are replacing it), but it was still in good working order. I also thought of boats, with their wooden hulls, and all of that beautiful woodwork on yachts. I am sure that the wainscoting can and should be adequately protected from the moisture in the bath. At least, that is what I am telling myself!

I have had waisncoting in my very small bathroom with little ventilation for over two years and have not had a problem at all. I just suggest that you glue and nail to ensure good adherance.

I like just plain white or a simple look with no black in it actually. Like this? Just plain and simple and let beauty of the tile do the talking!) Let the vanity and subway tile be all glossy and they hex of the tile will be showy enough. I think she could subway most everything and if she really loves they other she could trim it off and talk to Dad about buttering the tiles. Butter up Dad maybe! LOL! Or they make it colorful in really pretty floral designs! That would really be nice but you's probably have to stick to a subway tile. I shall go hide from your husband now, just as I hid from my tilesetter!!!!

Thanks everyone for the comments. As I mentionned in my previous posts, we are a family of 5 sharing one bathroom on the second floor. It had to be functionnal more than anything else. enduring This is our layout. The wall where the tub and shower are measures 10' and the vanity wall measures 8'. I feel like we accomplished a lot in that tight space. Snaggy and Mary Tillios , I hear you about the mirrors. When we bought the house, the bathroom wasn't split, and had 3 walls completely mirrored. I didn't like the look of it. But after living in in for a few years, I got addicted to them! It made the room seem much larger and made haristyling a bliss. When we demolished, the room seemed so small and dark without them. This is why we put so many mirrors back and because they were the last thing installed, we got to see the before and the after, and it made such a big difference. cindylou62 I agree! Unfortunately, one of our cats has a wet rug fetish and pees on bathroom rugs every single time we forget to hang them. I will be buying new towels eventually and will try something more fun than the white or grey that we currently have. bpath reads banned books too I love our toilet too :) Thanks for noticing! If I remember correctly, you were one of the ones that convinced me to use some of Ikea's bathroom line. So glad I did!

@Cherie I've definitely had that thought, but I feel that the longer we wait to do this project the harder it gets to deciding what we want. I've found that the more I think about this project the more unsure I've become really. This post was as close to we got to feeling like things were set to go...but given how this thread is going maybe taking extra time is the way to go @kariyava i actually love that all sand look...I showed it to my partner and we are considering using the sand britstone we chose with nickel fixtures just like it. but I think the stone we chose might a bit darker than the photo...might have to rethink the tile. As much as i like it I do worry that with double shower heads the bathroom might look a little crowded , and I'm not sure the spacious look would translate as well in a smaller bathroom with 8 ft ceilings

These baths sounded similar to yours... you might gain some inspiration for what to do from these.

From your description, I would think either carry the black octagon border into the shower, or put in a white border accent...

From the sound of your design, I don't think you will make a bad choice. It sounds lovely. Please post pics when you are finished!

You don't need to get terribly fancy in the shower.

Do at least try to break up the solid wall of subway in the shower with an inset of band of accent tile, just below mid-height on the wall. To get a starting point I'll look at inserting the band around 40%-42% up the wall. Meaning if I had 10 courses or rows of tile on the wall, instead of having 5 courses below the band and five above, I'd shoot for 4 below and 6 above.

I you want to shift gears a bit more you can do a standard subway running bond pattern below the band, then shift to herringbone subway above the band.

Just an idea.

Are you going to use a shower curtain? If so, then I wouldn't waste money on accent tile. You can introduce color through paint, shower curtain, towel, rug, window treatment and all of these are easier to change than tile.
