I would suggest Avast but what do I know since my ASUS PC now appears to be bricked due to this virus. I started full scans of my spyware/malware programs last night to try to identify and clean out this virus, which I also got in the course of a recipe search, apparently from the Food Network. Unfortunately my son got up this morning, saw my netbook sitting there with the clamshell up, thought I'd left it on by accident, and shut it down. Now it won't boot, not even in safe mode. I know the winlogon.exe file was corrupted and had scheduled a boot scan in Avast, but what it does now is cycle constantly between the blue screen with a message that flashes past far too quickly for me to read it, and the windows boot screen. It never comes up. Since it was shut down before I got up this morning, I also didn't get to write down my XP license number, so even though I have access to an external DVD and an XP installation disk, I DON'T have a valid license # to enter. I fear my netbook is bricked, all because of a recipe for apple streusel pie.

I also highly recommend the Landzdown group! Ravencajun sent me there a few weeks ago (I posted my problem on the Computer forum). Corrine walked me through ridding our PC of a very nasty virus. ML

there you go there is the link for ad block plus and you want to make sure to get the easylist subscription for it. Add EasyList to Adblock Plus just clik on that line it will add it to your ad block plus. I prefer links from major geeks they are direct downloads and all safe. Just be sure as always to watch closely as you go through step by step to uncheck any added on stuff like toolbars etc. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.01.1004 Final SpywareBlaster 5.0 just install and update it weekly so the shield turns green. hit the update button then it finds the updates then says enable all updates click that and that should do it. When doing the download you will be taken to a page with an hourglass it says continue with download or go for the pay version just click the hourglass continue with download for the free one. SUPERAntiSpyware Free 5.7.1018 there you go that is the free version. Have you installed an antivirus program? Usually you will get a free trial version. You will probably want to uninstall that one and get something else like AVAST free. If you need help just let me know. I have a good program that will uninstall for you. Here is the Avast link for when you need it. Avast! Free Edition 2014 9.0.2016.330 Final

Maddielee, you were right--I didn't have the plug pushed in far enough. But the videos and music tracks still stop when I disengage the plug. And the sound coming from the tablet speaker(s) is weak and tinny. I'm wondering if the speaker is blown. I found the following on Geek.com: In some cases, the Nexus 7 has quickly blown a speaker or has had a blown speaker on arrival. Anyone who knows what a blown speaker sounds like will recognize the problem immediately, and it will not be difficult at all to demonstrate this issue to the customer support if this problem occurs for you. I'll check on the Nexus forum. Thanks!
