Computer freezes--IE 8?

When I first installed IE8 early this month it seemed to work fine and I really like it. Then along comes the last Windows updates and I've been having problems since then. Really have no idea what my problem is or even if it is related to either of those things.

Here's what is happening. At first, when going from site to site I noticed the freezing when I closed IE and then clicked on one of my shortcuts to go to another site. Because IE8 was new I thought maybe I was just doing things wrong. So I began not leaving the first site and just went to additional site. As long as I didn't close the first site I could browse and leave then go elsewhere.

Today, I seem to be able to only open one window (as I am doing right now to post this) and then if I try to add another site (like Cooking on GW) in another tab, everything freezes. Then I have to reboot. I've done this numerous times.

I ran Malwarebytes yesterday, no problems.

I run CCleaner almost everyday.

I have Superantispyware.

I have avast!

I ran a Hijack this this morning and saved the results.

My computer is a Dell XPS400 desktop and I show 141 GB of free space on the local disk (used 28.6GB)

Windows XP Media Center.

Any other info needed? Any ideas?

First try an run IE8 in "No add/ons mode.

Sounds like the conflicts I had with SpybotSD immunize. But it might be a browser plug-in.

You might see if you can run IE without add-on's.
Right click IE desktop icon and it has a context menu item 'Start without add-on's'

Think its also in all programs off the start menu.

Hi jean_mi_z5, Reports inconclusive to me. It's showing a lot of system file crashes, but those crashes can be caused by 3ed party files / drives causing the Microsoft drivers to crash and I don't see any 3ed party listed. If you're having a lot of blue screens and it appears you are, I strongly recommend you post at the link provided. Two steps backwards, one step forward. While dealing with the impending death of my own pc's hard drive, I had plenty of time to work on her computer. I opened the case. Cleaned out the dust bunnies much more thoroughly than I had in October. I found the fan - and actually took it out and cleaned it thoroughly (mostly compressed air, and a little damp cloth). I did remove the label and add a drop of WD 40. (While I was at it, I searched for replacement fans in case this didn't work - and bookmarked some - it would be so simple to replace if needed.) Put the pieces back together and started it up. Still noisy. I started organizing her files, deleting duplicates and ridiculous things she didn't even know she had on there. I put everything in logical folders - then copied her 16GB of video (Ipod videos and flip share) onto a 32mb flash drive. Deleted 8gb of that video bc. it's also on her ipod. Then I ran auslogics defrag. Defrag was 100% successful - and she now has about 15GB free on a 40GB drive. Now the noise is less. I hear the fan a little - but you have to stop to listen. Not sure if it just took running a little for the oil to do it's thing. From what folks said earlier, it's unlikely that freeing up space and defragging reduced the noise. So far, so good. (I even think I could have turned it on with the case open - but i didn't have to.) Thanks. Lynn.

I disabled all the add ons. Came back here, then decided to try going to the cooking forum..worked fine.
Got two windows opened.... then I tried to go to Pogo, where I like to play games and the computer froze again. Tried to get out of the freeze by using task manager and the whole thing froze and I had to reboot to come here again..

Also...have noticed that my cuser seems super charged or something.. I have been having multiple windows for the same site open unless I use just the very lightest touch. Have also had some problems with highlight and copy. Haven't changed my mouse at all.

If you havent already maybe look at the release notes for know conflicts when it was first set public.

Maybe its something simple.

I followed the msdn instructions and removed IE8 then reinstalled it. I'm back to running smoothly at this time. I kept it plain and will only try the one add-on I really liked after I make sure all is well.

Been doing some fast surfing and no freeze up...

Thank you!! Hope to not have to come back with any other problems.

Sorry but IE has encountered a problem and needs to shut down,sorry,bla,bla. and had to shut down IE and start over. It did not shut down whole computer and have to re boot but just IE. I uninstalled IE8 and went back to IE7 and all is well.Thanks
