Computer freezes--IE 8?

When I first installed IE8 early this month it seemed to work fine and I really like it. Then along comes the last Windows updates and I've been having problems since then. Really have no idea what my problem is or even if it is related to either of those things.

Here's what is happening. At first, when going from site to site I noticed the freezing when I closed IE and then clicked on one of my shortcuts to go to another site. Because IE8 was new I thought maybe I was just doing things wrong. So I began not leaving the first site and just went to additional site. As long as I didn't close the first site I could browse and leave then go elsewhere.

Today, I seem to be able to only open one window (as I am doing right now to post this) and then if I try to add another site (like Cooking on GW) in another tab, everything freezes. Then I have to reboot. I've done this numerous times.

I ran Malwarebytes yesterday, no problems.

I run CCleaner almost everyday.

I have Superantispyware.

I have avast!

I ran a Hijack this this morning and saved the results.

My computer is a Dell XPS400 desktop and I show 141 GB of free space on the local disk (used 28.6GB)

Windows XP Media Center.

Any other info needed? Any ideas?

First try an run IE8 in "No add/ons mode.

Sounds like the conflicts I had with SpybotSD immunize. But it might be a browser plug-in.

You might see if you can run IE without add-on's.
Right click IE desktop icon and it has a context menu item 'Start without add-on's'

Think its also in all programs off the start menu.

Thanks everyone. I too would like to know why someone said not to use the camera's transfer ability; my camera came with a utility program & cable specifically for transferring photos. It has worked fine, knock on wood. As for the cards, I bought the same cards I always buy, but maybe they are making them differently now? not sure. Or maybe my card reader is malfunctioning. not sure. So I'll just keep transferring via EOS Utility for now. (which does not use up the battery that much, BTW--the transfer is fairly fast and the camera shuts itself off after it's done, if I have to let it go awhile/walk away from it)

I didn't have any special problems turning up my Gateway Laptop with W8 a few months back. The biggest problems I had was learning (trial and error) to make one of the W8 tiles a start for Firefox (browser). When this is done the desktop converts to a W7 look. Yea, there's a lto of other "goodies" and I slowly started using them. In spite of the fact that it sometimes facilitates my crashing a dialog via my browser I love the "smart" touch pad. I find it hard using W7 laptop not being able to scroll using two fingers on the touch pad - I guess that's the feature I use the most. The last and only time I was ready to throw out a new notebook, an Acer, was when I couldn't get Vista to set up an network interface (best I can recall, these years later). But as I had purchased it from Walmart I just took it back and said I didn't want it - they refunded my purchase price. I found a demo laptop with XP and purchased it - that was my first Gateway.

I'm now leaning more towards doing the transfers through external hard drive (gulp) - however, I'm confused on how to hook up the new computer with the old computer still hooked up. Would I just plug it in, and then connect it to our wireless home network? It seems the (old) monitor has only one hook-up spot which the old computer is plugged into. Should I wait for the new monitor to arrive (which is supposed to be about a month from now according to the estimated delivery date)? Or do I need the new computer hooked into a monitor just for transferring data? Now I'm thinking maybe I just need the new computer plugged into the monitor, and the XP computer not plugged in - lol - I'm confused. Maybe I should wait until everything arrives.

I disabled all the add ons. Came back here, then decided to try going to the cooking forum..worked fine.
Got two windows opened.... then I tried to go to Pogo, where I like to play games and the computer froze again. Tried to get out of the freeze by using task manager and the whole thing froze and I had to reboot to come here again..

Also...have noticed that my cuser seems super charged or something.. I have been having multiple windows for the same site open unless I use just the very lightest touch. Have also had some problems with highlight and copy. Haven't changed my mouse at all.

If you havent already maybe look at the release notes for know conflicts when it was first set public.

Maybe its something simple.

I followed the msdn instructions and removed IE8 then reinstalled it. I'm back to running smoothly at this time. I kept it plain and will only try the one add-on I really liked after I make sure all is well.

Been doing some fast surfing and no freeze up...

Thank you!! Hope to not have to come back with any other problems.

Sorry but IE has encountered a problem and needs to shut down,sorry,bla,bla. and had to shut down IE and start over. It did not shut down whole computer and have to re boot but just IE. I uninstalled IE8 and went back to IE7 and all is well.Thanks
