Kitchen / bath fan ducting

Hi, Our kitchen hood/bath exaust fan are both 6" ducting. Our vent caps will vent through an outside wall.I've been told that the flaps on the vent caps usually fail in time due to corrosion, debris, etc and let in cold air.Our vent caps are way up tall on the wall, so no critter or bird concerns.

Draft blocker makes an inline blocker but is only 4". My question is: If i reduce at one end, install the blocker, then gain back to 6", will it affect the performance of the fans? Draft blocker says it's done all the time, but i would appreciate a second opinion.Would simply insulating the ducting accomplish the same thing?

I ran this by the hvac forum to no avail.

Thanks for any thoughts on this,Mark
