genes I saw the other post and looking into that issue, kind of odd TFC would generate that.

Glad you asked. Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files. Download TFC by OldTimer click Here to your desktop. Click the Save file tab, save it to the desktop. Then double click it to run it. Double-clickTFC.exe to run it. Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin * Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process. * Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. * Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished. Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning. What TFC does TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files. -- TFC only cleans temp folders. -- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. For some reason, protected system files are displayed in your folders,
including the Desktop folder. It is recommended to keep them hidden.

In Windows Explorer: Tools > Folder Options > View tab > check 'Hide
protected system files'. Apply this setting to all folders.

Sorry to barge in here, but I see you're running Vista with SP1. You may want to consider the free SP2 Update for security reasons. I run Vista as well. Found the following in the link below about 1/2 way down the page.

"If you're running Windows Vista without any service packs and you're not ready to upgrade to Windows 7, you should install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2), a free update.
Windows Vista SP2 includes support for new types of hardware and includes all of the updates that have been released since Windows Vista SP1."

Just click on the Tab that states "Windows Vista SP2" Just under where it states . "Not ready for Windows 7? Get the latest service pack."

I'm not ready for Win7 either. I love my Vista!

Also, I had the same thing happen to me with the hidden files on desktop. As zep says...Don't delete them! They will disappear once you check 'Hide
protected system files'.

Great that seemed to do the trick....thanks...I do have Vista Ultimate SP2...must have been finger trouble

TFC by Oldtimer seems like it may be similar to ATF-Cleaner or CCleaner? If so, is it presently considered the better choice or just one of several good choices?

I use it in conjunction with Ccleaner and ATF. TFC only cleans temporary internet files and temp files so not as many options offered as the other 2, I only use it once in a while. It can also cause the issue that occurred in the above post by genes. When I do a cleaning I run them all + Disk clean up in windows.
