Hi Prairiemoon. To see how much a folder holds you open Explorer, right click on the folder in question then click Properties. This will tell you the total size of the folder and how many files are in there. There is no way to tell how many files can fit on a CD simply because there are files of just a few kilobytes and other can be many megabytes. In future you might consider creating a new folder inside ÂMy documents perhaps  (open Explorer, click ÂMy documents to highlight it, click File at the top, click ÂNew click ÂFolderÂ. Type a name you wish to use. Now you can copy your photos into that occasionally doing the right click/properties thing on the folder name to check for overall folder size, stopping when you either have all the needed photos or capacity is reached. As you have 262 megs on the CD you can add about 438 more megs to fill it. You may get a warning about compatibility but continue on. I do and it is fine. No, you cannot delete anything from a CD once it is burned. Practise a little, you may make a few throw away disks but you will learn the right way. (Any I throw away I scratch across the medium a few times in case it gets picked out of the garbage  unlikely but I am a bit cautious with family photos) All files burned to CD are ÂRead onlyÂ, they cannot be otherwise because you cannot alter them. You can copy any that need editing back to your hard drive but you will need to give it another name before being allowed to modify it. I generally add a number to the end if it is a name or a letter if the title is numerical. Again, once the CD is burned changes are not possible so the name remains the same. You can of course write what you like on the CD using a Sharpie or getting fancy with CD labels if you plan on doing quite a few. Labelling kits are around $20  and up for the kit and software or the opportunity to download software from the vendorÂs site. Using a Sharpie I write right across the middle of a CD or DVD so it shows through the window of my paper sleeves. I have no time or space for the plastic things CDs go in. I use any known brand of CD or DVD myself, I do not use off brands. Why risk failing? If the material is considered important enough to save then save it confident that it can be retrieved at a future time. I would not burn photos to a DVD simply because of the huge numbers capable of being burned. Of course if you really plan ahead and get all you photos lined up as you want them in folders and sub folders then it might be feasible. On that note, why are blank DVDs so much cheaper than blank CDs these days? Books to my mind are not the answer regarding computers. They are out of date before they reach the street at times and can be very expensive. Personally I am a big fan of Google. Type Âphoto editing tutorial or what ever you need to know ending in Âtutorial and you will get thousands of pages come up. Look through those and find perhaps 3 that are written in a style you personally are comfortable with and save those to your Bookmarks/Favourites. Yes, I do feel better about my computer security, but truthfully will feel a lot better when I get it all sorted out. Is it just me, or do you have to be a rocket scientist to understand SpywareBlaster? lol First of all, under Protection Status, Internet Explorer Protection, I ticked off both Active X Protection and Cookie Protection not being sure if I should do that. ie. Do I want to protect my PC from ALL Active X and ALL cookies? I just left the 'Block List' alone since SpywareBlaster has 355 items selected, and since I don't know what I want to block or not block. After doing this, Internet Explorer Protection is 'partially enabled'. I don't know if that's what I should have. I have protection enabled for Restricted Sites - that, I think I understand. Do I want to do a System Snapshot? And with the Secunia, when I downloaded it I set it to automatically update out-of-date programs. Should I have selected that option, or should I manually update out-of-date programs that it finds? To respond to your recommendations (and thank you for making them), near: 1. I do have Windows set to automatically update, so I'm good on that. I checked up update history, and the only updates it recommends at this time are 7 optional ones. I never done the optional updates. 2. I'm seeing more and more recommendations for the MSE. So it only updates and runs once a week and not daily. I guess this is sufficient? I'm not sure if I'm going to switch over my AVG for something else, but MSE is in the running. 3. Check, on the MalwareBytes. Do you usually run a full scan or a Quick Scan? I've been running the full scan mostly. 4.Check, on the SpywareBlaster (but I have the above questions on it). I still haven't downloaded the SuperAntispyware. 5. I downloaded the Secunia. 6. I haven't downloaded the WinPatrol yet. I have been wondering if AVG will have a problem with it, or vice versa. But we'll see.

You have now reached our information page. On this page, please locate the blue lettering that states: "Click here to learn more and to update your Pandigital Novel." 5. Unplugging any other USB mass storage devices from your computer. These kinds of devices include flash drives, cameras, photo frames etc. Keyboards and mice are not considered storage devices so if you have any of those plugged into your USB ports, they are ok to leave plugged in. 2. Powering your Pandigital Novel with the supplied AC adapter (please ignore this step and just be sure that your Pandigital Novel is fully charged before you attempt the upgrade process). 3. Connect your Pandigital Novel to your computer using the USB cable that was supplied with your device. 4. Power your Pandigital Novel on (your Novel will go into "PC Mode"\- this means that your Novel will be inoperable while connected to your computer). 12. Once you have completed these steps, please click on "Ok" to advance to the next step. 13. The Updater Application will then display a screen and ask you to confirm the details of your device (serial number, model number, etc.). Confirm these details by clicking on the "Confirm" button. 14. You will now begin the download process. (This process can take some time depending on your computer and your internet speed). 15. Once you have finished the download the screen will display that you have successfully downloaded the firmware update. At this point you will see another text box on appear on your screen giving you more instruction. These instructions will include: 1. Removing your Pandigital Novel device from your computer 2. Informing you that your Novel may or may not turn itself off, if it does not turn itself off, please power the Novel completely off by pressing the power button and choosing the "power off" option. 3. Now it will ask you to power your Novel back on in a very specific way. Please press the power and volume up button (located on the top of your device and is the + key) at the same time (not one and then the other, they must be pressed at the same time) for 10 seconds. Please do these steps until you see two lines of white text appear at the top of your screen that states the boot count and firmware version. As soon as you see these lines of text, let go of the power and volume + buttons. This should begin the update process in the form of a blue progress bar appearing at the bottom of the screen that will state things like "verifying update." If you have reached this screen your Novel is now updating properly. If you do not see this screen, please power your device off once more and try the activation process of holding the power and volume + buttons again. Do not be discouraged if this takes a few tries, and be sure you are holding the edge of the power + button; holding it too close to the middle will not activate the update. 4. Once the update is complete, please power off your Pandigital Novel completely, then reconnect the device to your computer using the USB cable and power it on after it is plugged in. 5. Click on "Ok". This will then run a process called a "restore". Once this has finished please disconnect your novel and once more perform the activation process of holding down the power and volume + buttons. You will again get another blue progress bar at the bottom of your screen when done correctly. 16. Congratulations! You have now updated your Pandigital Novel successfully! I have attached a new user manual for your use as the interface of your Novel has now changed to the most recent version. So you have a thread you want to save "forever" for later reference or that you just want to follow. What can you do? GardenWeb does not have a "Follow" function, so you cannot do it that way. You could "bookmark" the thread in your "favorites" or "bookmarks" on your local machine. You could "clip" a post in the thread so you can get back to the whole thread. You could also search Kitchens (using the search box on the bottom of the Kitchens home page that has the list of threads) or by using Google or similar search engine. Each of these has their strengths & weaknesses. Bookmarking a thread: You can bookmark the thread in your "favorites" or "bookmarks" folder on your local machine. However, if there's a picture in the thread you saved that's later deleted or moved by the person posting the picture, you will no longer see the picture when you bring up the thread using your bookmark. This is b/c the bookmark brings up the thread updated to the the moment you used the bookmark..."right now". Additionally, if the thread disappears, you will no longer be able to access it. If this happens, you will get a "Missing File" page when you try to access the thread. Clipping a post: You'll notice that each post within a thread has the option to "clip this post". By clicking on this option, the post is clipped and saved to your "My Clippings" (access it via: http://clippings.gardenweb.com/clippings/your username) It clips the post (and only that post) from the thread. When you later look at it in your clippings, you can click on the post's subject and it will take you back to the entire thread, assuming it's still available. You are limited to 50 clipped posts. Once you reach the maximum of 50, you will no longer be allowed to clip another post (or email it) until you delete at least one clipping. Another downside is that like bookmarking, if someone deletes a picture that's in the clipped post, you will lose that picture b/c when you access the clipping it's as of "right now". Ditto if you click on the post's subject to get to the thread...the picture will be gone there as well. [When clipping a post, keep in mind that only a single post within a thread is saved...the post where you click the "clip this post" link.] In addition, if the thread goes missing, you will not be able to access the entire thread. The clipped post will remain, but when you click on the post's subject, you will get the "Missing File" page. Searching Kitchens: This works so-so b/c GardenWeb has a rather primitive search function. However, even that becomes useless once a thread drops off page 67 of the Kitchen Forum's thread list. Again, the thread is accessed in it's current state, so if a picture has been deleted, it will be deleted in the retrieved thread. In addition, if the thread goes missing, it will not be found via a search on the Forum. Google search: Again, it's so-so b/c it's a basic search, not Forum-type functions like, for example, by thread author. However, you can often find threads that are "lost" to a GardenWeb search. (If you use this, include "site:ths.gardenweb.com" as part of the search criteria. It will limit results to pages/threads at GardenWeb.) And again, the thread is accessed in it's current state, so if a picture has been deleted, it will be deleted in the retrieved thread. Like the above options, if the thread goes missing, you will not find it via a Google search. Saving thread to local machine: This will save the entire thread as it is at the time it was saved; i.e., it's a "snapshot" of the thread at the time you saved it. So, even if someone later deletes their picture online, you will still have it on your machine in the saved thread. However, if others post to the thread after you've saved it, those updates are not reflected in your saved version b/c that saved version is a snapshot of a previous time. You can re-save it again later...but be careful, if one or more of the pictures are gone, you don't want to save on top of the old thread b/c it will overwrite it and you will lose the pictures you previously saved...so save it with a new name (maybe w/a version #). Additionally, if the thread goes missing, you will still have it on your machine. You will find this section in the upper right corner of each post. It also includes "email this post", "what is this?", and "see most clipped and recent clippings". The post to be clipped will be displayed by itself on a page with the option to add notes at the bottom of the page. Add any notes you wish to remind yourself why clipped it or any other note. Once you've added your notes (if desired), choose one of the radio buttons "public" or "private" to make the clipping public for everyone to see or private so only you can see it. Default is "public". Finally, click the "Save to my clippings" button to save the clipping. It will be added to the end of your clippings list. Note there is also a "cancel" button, click this button instead of the "save" button if you wish to cancel saving the clipping. When viewing your clippings, you can view them in any of the following sort orders: "Last Updated", "Post Date", "Post Title", or "Forum Name". This works the same as saving a file in any other product such as Word, Excel, etc. skip line To save a thread to your machine/computer in Word or other word processing format Any browser: Open up a new, blank document in MS Word or whatever your word processing application is. Copy (usually [Ctrl-C]) the thread. I usually select & copy everything from the title of the original post to the bottom of the last post...this prevents you from copying the page headers & footers. To select only what you want, click & drag your mouse or click on the beginning, scroll to the end, and do a [shift] + Click. (To select all, use [Ctrl-A]) If you want, you can edit the thread in your word processing application. Save it as you would any other document.
