Something wrong with Avast Web Shield?

I've got 4 infected pages alerts from Avast Web Shield within the past 5 minutes.. a couple were 'malware detected' and a couple were 'trojan horse blocked'. These are pages I normally check during the day (a trivia game, Wellspere and a thyroid forum). I can't imagine that there is really a problem with them.

Avast seems to be working fine otherwise. I am using Windows 7 and Firefox.

False positives maybe??

Up -Date and run a Malwarebytes scan for starters. See if shows anything.

On the pop ups it says 'HTML:RedirME-inf (trj)'. This is a trojan or malware?

Azinoh "Maybe we had different download sites?" That's possible. I downloaded directly from www.avast.com. If you did not, who knows what you actually downloaded. Could possibly have something to do with your very slow download also. ========================== Sunday 04-13: My version is 2014.9.0.2013 and now there is a new; 2014.9.0.2016. Well updating from the interface update just didn't seem to go so I went to the Avast.com site to download the dot.exe file. Clicking on download takes you to CNET. I now realize my original download was therefore thru CNET. So much for getting Avast from Avast. From Google it would seem cnet hasn't got the best of reputations any more in fact lots of complaints about extra programs foisted off on ya. Guess so. I went to File Hippo for the 84.55M file. Then googled that and there seems to be problems with the 2014.9.0.2016 version. So I'll skip it for now. Maybe let it age a bit. FH seems to have a good rep but most mssgs I found about them were several years old.

why did you not submit it? that is exactly what you should do is submit it so they can analyze it and see if it is indeed the rootkit version of that file or the legit file which is giving a false positive. If it is the rootkit that is a serious infection. in the meantime if you do not have malwarebytes get it and follow these directions. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt * Please post contents of that file in your next reply

Thank you, Kudzu9. I knew I could disable across the board, but I'm glad to hear it's safe to just put in the exclusions for the sites I'm using that are getting blocked. Still curious why Avast web shield is now going into overdrive (I don't think a setting got changed). At least I can resume my activities and just allow exclusions that I need. Lynn.

Rantootoo, Up until a year ago, these slim led fixtures really had harsh lighting. About a year ago, the CRI went up to 90 from 80 and thy started offering 3000k units instead of 3500. This was a game changer and you are seeing more and more fixtures in the $50 price point. I like the gimbal like fixtures too because you can adjust them. As the technology gets better, the pricing comes down on the fixtures. The only reason I would install recessed fixtures now is if I were using tunable LED lighting where you can pick your particular lighting color choice for your home. Even the tunable fixtures, have surface mount fixtures. I think recessed lights may be a thing of the past shortly. You can always sell the cans on eBay or if you bought online many will take returns on unopened fixtures. Good luck!

Okay, ran Malwarebytes and that came up clean. Ran my AV and there was 870 infected pages which were put into the Avast chest. Ran a slower scan at Avast and this time nothing was found, but a few pages couldn't be opened. Just clicked on my trivia game and no pop-up this time... so hopefully the problem has been taken care of.

You're not alone. I also began receiving multiple Avast reports of blocked malware and trojans late this afternoon. It said the infection was:

HTML:Script-inf

I updated Malwarebytes and began a full scan. In the midst of the scan, Avast popped up and said something to the effect that it wanted to do a boot scan. I let it.

It reported:

C:\CMPNETS\MEDIACTR\I386\MEDIACTR.CAB:>medcthlp.cab:>rmtview.chm:>htm\accessibility.htm is infected by HTML:script-inf

There were several options and I chose "Move to Chest". The response was:

"Move to chest: ERROR 42111 (the operation is not supported for this type of archive.)

I selected Escape, the computer rebooted, and I ran a full Malwarebytes scan. It found no infections.

My computer seems to be back to "normal".

HP XP Media Center; SP3, FF 3.6.16, Avast 5.1.889, MAM, ZA, SAS, Spybot SAD, Spyware Blaster

It's likely a false positive. There's literally HUNDREDS of people on Twitter complaining of the same issue,

Problem was with bad Avast update (110411-1). Check your Engine & Definition update status and if you have that one, run another update.

I had trouble getting an update this afternoon shortly after 3PM EDT. I kept getting an error (403, I believe). I gave up and later did a manual update which went just fine.

Problem I had with the error 403 must have been sorted out yesterday as I got my update on the 12th
