My BOOTMGR is compressed

In trying to free up some space on DWs hard drive, I compressed the files, which, as it turns out also compressed BOOTMGR. Now it won't boot up at all, not even into Safe Mode by pressing F8.
It's an HP Mini with no internal CD drive and running XP.
I have an external CD drive, if that helps.
Is there any hope here?

The original problem was that, apparently, some Malware has filled 99% of the 160GB hard drive, her files certainly haven't. I'll need advice on fixing that after I rectify the booting problem.

You might consider using Kaspersky's rescue disk to clean the computer first. This does NOT require Windows to run, it starts before that.

The link shows you how to download and transfer to a USB but you can burn the .iso version to a CD. Reset the BIOS as they show so the computer seeks either the USB or CD you chose to use.

Read the instructions during install because they are quite small (I think you have to tap the letter A at some point then agree to allow it to go online to get the latest malware definitions. Good program, takes quite a while to run the test but time is irrelevant for you right now.

You need to open a command line and the command is
Compact /?
look at it but be careful with it !

you probably need to make a bootable repair disc or usb drive to have a command prompt offline and assuming win 7 or 8 the boot drive has no letter so you will need to find ithe drive id numbers with the diskpart command.

If that thing has a restore drive.. might as well just run it and restore to factory new. Read up on how to in its online manual maybe. I have a feeling if you compressed the whole system drive it its gonna be difficult with more than just the boot manager. That's just the first item.

With a repair disk you can try the Startup Repair or Automatic Repair(win8) and run it 3 times in succession if once doesn't seem to work.. It may see corrupted bootmgr and write you a new one.

chaparral (or any herb for that matter) should not be used continuously for any length of time anyway. use it as a small proportion of the formula....now and then go off it for a couple-few weeks (applies to any herb you take daily). for arthritis issues its hard to beat turmeric, a near panacea for arthritis and joint pain and inflammation in general. sounds like you have an herb store nearby...mix turmeric with either oregon grape or barberry root in equal parts by weight, powder together till very fine in a coffee grinder or something similar and make into a thick paste with honey. stir some of the paste into hot milk (avoid dairy milk if you have arthritis, almond or rice milk works fine) and drink a hot cup or two morning and night. this is an ancient ayurvedic remedy called golden milk, it has been used by yogis for millenia to increase flexibility of joints, ligaments and tendons to enable them to go deeper into yogic postures. start with 1 teaspoon 2x day and adjust dosage upward as needed to get relief....you should notice a difference within a week. a tablespoon or more 2x a day is not too much, can't overdose on this. again, remember to take a break from it now and then. be well!

FIP - female, with pipe threads (could actually be on a PVC or other fitting) Compression is just a method for attaching to a smooth pipe. So the 3/8 inch tubing has a compression fitting with a ferrule probably, while the 1/2-inch end is threaded to attach to a female pipe thread -- I think. I was a little confused about the T because you said this was a label on the hose. Most faucet fittings use 3/8 inch tubing, and most stop valves fit on 1/2 inch pipe, so those are typical connections on T's and valves. It sounds almost exactly the same as a dishwasher hookup. You can buy an all-brass T that will screw onto the 3/8 outlet of the cold water stop valve, and it has two threaded outlets, 3/8 for the dishwasher and faucet. I got mine at ace hardware. The filter would need a threaded female end (like a garden hose) or you would use a nut and ferrule (compression) fitting. The type of tubing makes the difference on whether the ferrule is brass or plastic or something special.

I had my first sclerotherapy in 1989 by a guy in Beverly Hills. He maxed out the strength, so he would only use one syringe per appointment and no compression stockings afterwards. I could taste it immediately after the injection. Those veins never came back. I wish he were still around, but I've never had the same success level despite going to a number of folks over the past few decades. Anyone in So Cal have a good doctor? Also, I just ordered a couple calf sleeves at the Nordstrom sale. I always wear compression socks when I fly more than 3 1/2 hours so my feet and ankles don't swell. Does anyone have experience flying with calf sleeves? Often I'm flying for business and the socks won't fit in my pumps. Oh, the problems I have..... ;)

Bob, compression fittings are allowed for installing shower valves. Moen even has a video showing exactly how to do it. Shark bites are allowed too. .....In the U.S. The fact that something is or isn't allowed in the colonies doesn't really concern Mr. Nobel. If you aren't versed in what's acceptable in his locale , you should say so and take a pass at dispensing advice especially if you fundamentally disagree with the local custom. You may not like people who drive in the left , but have to accept it in places answering to the Crown. geoffrey, im sure you mean well - but a vapor barrier doesn't really enter into the equation since Matt has made no mention of a steam generator. Waterproofing on the other hand is part if the conversation - but that's different than vapor management. Now, value , and what you might do in your own home certainly have a place in this conversation (* sort of) but don't force YOUR bias onto someone else under the guise of "it's not to code" or "it's only for hacks" or "it's too expensive, or you can do it cheaper". * what you'd do in the States really doesn't matter a hill of beans in London . So, maybe some of you guys oughta pipe down a bit. It's OK if you don't want to help or are ignorant when it comes to UK plumbing. I ended up booting from a borrowed XP install, navigating to a command prompt and telling it to FIXBOOT.
Success!
Why would Windows even allow you to compress this file without warning of the consequences?
The initial problem was caused by a corrupted ROXIO routine that was filling the hard drive with successive backup files, and not deleting previous backups.

Windows has thousands of utilities and settings, you can do anything you want with most of them. You can easily erase your entire hard drive while thinking you're just tidying up. The key (in my view) is to never attempt or fiddle with anything you don't FULLY understand. Like, never, don't even think of it!

The solution for a full drive is always to just delete files - and add another drive if you need more room.

You'll do yourself a favor dropping the Roxio software and finding a suitable replacement. Most Roxio stuff is garbage, never better attested to than by its purchase by Corel (a company that tries to make a business out of buying everyone else's cast-off junk)
