quistion about Spywareblaster

I've been using Spywareblaster for several years at the recommendation of folks on this forum (whom I trust).

Yesterday, a "technician" at a computer store informed me that Spywareblaster was considered a "rogue" by many (many who, I'm not sure) and was as apt to install spyware as it was to protect from it.

No doubt the guy was trying to steer us toward a non-free program he's getting a kick-back for promoting, but on the off chance he was telling the truth, I wanted to check in here before installing it on the new PC we're getting.

What are your opinions? Please and thanks,

That is not accurated. Spywareblaster is and has been for a long time recommended highly by the tech forums that aid in removal of malware. It is a trusted program and the program writers at javacool are highly regarded. He may have had it confused with some other program with a similar name perhaps?

this is a rogue company that tries to trick people into using their product instead of the real and good program from javacool.

Always make sure you get the right spywareblaster by getting it directly from the javacool site.

on this page at Eric's spywarewarrior page you can scroll on down and he will tell you products you can use you will see Spywareblaster and Spywareguard both listed there. Both of those are by javacool

I've used Spywareblaster for a long time, on my machines and those I repair. You are absolutely safe with this software.

Jonas, it's very hard to answer questions like this, because there are so many variables -- the amount of sun, the soil mix you use, how much water it gets, etc. But many Opuntias are quite fast growers. Austrocylindropuntia subulata, for example, is one of the fastest-growing cacti. I don't have any experience with O. humifusa, since I just got a cutting last fall, but in general, I'd expect one or two new pads to grow from each of the existing pads over the summer. No idea whether removing immature fruits will speed up growth, but keep in mind that they can often be rooted and will start new plants. HTH, -R

Ta-da!!! I fixed it. For the 31st time (!) I opened ZA and looked through the various screens. I found "Appplication Control" and for Spywareblaster there were red "X's" under "inbound" and "outbound". In this same table SAS (which is updating) had green checks. There was no indication that I could/should click on the "X's" but I thought to do so; a menu appeared which allowed me to change the red "X's" to green checks. After this, when I tried to update Spywareblaster, it worked. Thank you all for considering my problem. Mike_kaiser, you're probably correct, and I'm heavy on the security programs. This computer is about 7 years old and over the years, I've slowly added these programs (and very recently, the router) as they've been recommended here. When one has been recommended I don't recall a corresponding recommendation to get rid of "x". So the list has grown. My computer seems to be running fine and isn't particularly slow so I haven't inquired about what I could remove.

You can try going to start> run> type in> regsvr32 (space) msstdfmt.dll> Ok. regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll Or Go to start> Right click > Explore > Program files> SpywareBlaster folder> uninsooo (Setup/uninstall). Removing SpywareBlaster and doing a new install for 4.2. I would run Malwarebytes to make sure your clean> Good luck!

spywareblaster is not a scanner type program it sits in the background and helps to keep you protected from malicious sites, I use it on all my windows computers and highly recommend it, you just install the free version, then click on updates, then click on the enable all protection so that the shield is green as long as the shield is green and you have all the updates you are good. I manually check for updates about once a week. for a good program that you can have on the pc no problems with any antivirus programs is malwarebytes. i would get the free version update it and run full scan with it once a week or so. Here are the directions, but I personally always do a full scan instead of the quick one. How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers I would do that scan now since you think you may have something on it now, let us know if it finds anything.

I too have used Spywareblaster for years on all computers. Currently protecting us against 10,041 nasties - not too shabby at all.

Likewise, I have used Spywareblaster for years. Just be sure to get the real program and not something that "sounds" like it, and update it about once a week, maybe not even that often. It offers good protection from the bad stuff.

I agree, he must have had it confused with some other program with a similar name.

Txken, Hi!!! I'm glad to see a familiar name from back when I first found this forum. I'm going to have a new PC with XP on it pretty soon, and I'm really going to need a lot of help getting used to it after using W/98 for so long.

Ravencajin, Randy, I think this "technician" was determined to steer us to a protection system we really don't need, for whatever reason. Confusion could not have been a part of it as this gentleman is ***never*** confused. About anything.

Anyway, I asked them to install my 'old reliable' programs, AVG, Ad-aware, and Spywareblaster. yes, I could do it myself, but with a new system to learn, I wanted as much of a head start as possible.

They ***better*** put the right ones on, considering what I'm paying them!!!!
