Just tried yoga today!

My sister, Chance and I went to a free introductory, gentle yoga class today at an open house. Chance lasted a half an hour then picked up her book and kept reading. I think it was a little too slow at the start for her. But DS and I really enjoyed it. She started with cramps and by the end of the hour they were gone.

The centre offers a variety of ways to take classes and pay, so we think we are going to give it a try for a month before we make a longer committment.

I am so surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Anyone else do yoga?

I have several friends who swear by yoga! I'm looking for a good beginner's DVD that I can do at home because I'm not able to go to a class.

I love it but do not do it often enough. There is a show on cable very early in the morning that I follow along with to start the day, sometimes. It sure has helped with lower back troubles.

Sometimes I omit the sausage and throw in some chopped up veggies, such as red or green pepper, onion, mushrooms. This is one of the few recipes in which I use white bread. Have always been happy with the results, but may try whole wheat someday. I'm also very intrigued with using hash brown patties or croutons. Phyllis, would you mind posting the particulars? Like how many patties and eggs, how much milk and cheese?

Darn! That is why I can't eat most frozen casseroles or canned veggies. Shoot! I'm thinking that is why they are high in Sodium, it helps preserve it somehow. Gayle

Pelargonium from leaf cuttings? I just tried today.

My first update. Roots have appeared at the base of all four cuttings. The heat wave at this time of the year is terrible, and makes me miss the cold showers of winter. I guess my Geraniums share that sentiment with me. Though rooted, two have turned brown and died. Those are two "Vancouver centennial" stellars. I noticed bothrytis took a hold over the edges of the leaves and migrated inwards. Courageously, I cut the leaves of three and retained the leaf axil. Possibly the two stellars have started dying even before I did that. The remaining axil looks green and plump, the fourth leaf is holding-on and I didn't cut it. It is a "unique" unknown hybrid. Will follow-up weather forecasts for timing my next attempt. I know this is possible, and if the summer is too hot anyway, I will postpone my attempt to fall.

Suebelle, The file suggestion is good. I noticed when starting a post if I include the pics in the first post, it isn't always going smoothly so I normally start the post with text then post the pics in the next posts. I used Chrome browser on a computer, and they have a max limit of posting 10 pics per post. Here are my tests (11/5/2019 @ 9:35 PDT): Each pic is < 1 MB - Posted 5 pics with total size: 4.1 MB: no problem. - Posted 10 pics with total size: 10.4 MB: no problem. MB: megabyte Some other websites or apps use some types of image compression programs, and that is why when you upload your images you don't need to resize them. I'm not sure if Houzz uses this type of compression program or not. If they do, it hasn't been working correctly for users. Until they figure it out, just resize your images to less than 1 MB/each. Sometimes, even with small file sizes, Houzz has some problems with their servers, so just wait and try it later. Good luck. Helen

Several of my GFs are taking classes now and trying to et me to join. They are all raving how wonderful it is so I will probably give it a try this month.

I used to do yoga on my own, reading from a book and really loved it. There were no classes nearby at that time. Now I do machine Pilates so I guess together with some walking I'm doing enough at the moment but yoga is very good for you and it must be really enjoyable when in a class with others.

I can still "feel" some of the stretches today in my shoulders and arms. We are going to go to another class this week. A tape sounds good, but I think I would be worried about form and doing things right. But not having to go out in this cold is appealing!

I love yoga. I DVR the show Inhale on the Oxygen channel and do it three times a week. I'm 37 and can bend over keeping my legs straight and touch my nose to me knees :) I can also push up into a bridge (backbend). I'm also completely calmed down by the time I finish a workout. I highly recommend it!

I love yoga, too. I second Tracey's comment about calming. I feel somehow centered and invigorated after a workout. I feel like I am carrying myself differently, too.

I have taken classes and done home workouts. I like Total Yoga by Tracey Rich and Ganga White for a basic home hatha yoga workout...

and if you want a more physical challenge, try Ashtanga Yoga...and a DVD by David Swenson.

a nice combination of classes and home workouts would probably be best, as you're right - sometimes, at first, especially, you need some guidance about movements and form.

I LOVE yoga. But there is a huge variety in how it is taught. And how different people can get into the various positions. You need to find the right way for you to fully enjoy it. I've taken two yoga classes and one was so so and the other was awful I only went one time. I could not do one position as it was taught. I highly recommend "Richard Hittleman's 28 Day Yoga Plan." Maybe out of print as it is an oldie--BUT a goodie. I also like Lilias Folan, who used to have a yoga TV show, not sure about now. I bought a series of yoga videos which were OK but I haven't used them--I can't seem to get inspired to do yoga in the living room where the VCR is, and I can't afford anything for the bedroom where I usually do my yoga. I find yoga the absolute best thing for relaxing and helping me fall asleep and stay asleep. I have got to get back into it ASAP.
