No problem, Breenthumb - I was looking for a much simpler answer, anyway. On my old PC I could press Cont-Alt-Delete and get a list of what was running--maybe 8 items. Doing that on XP gives me a list a mile long. I was hoping for some way to figure out what was what on that list, and could "end task" whatever was going on that I didn't need at the moment. No big deal, I can out-wait the slowdown. It's just annoying. Cheers, J

Revo is an excellent program I have recommeneded it here and elsewhere for a long time and it usually provides excellent results. Plus it has some other great features other than being an uninstaller, I suggest reading up on the site as to the various uses, it is a great tool for addressing your start up programs. The reason I think they are the same is that after the secondary computer (the one which actually works on downloading) was scrubbed, I re-loaded the files from the disks from which I loaded the primarily computers programs. These were both done using the install wizard so I changed no individual settings. The suffix on the attachments which I can't download are .jpg and .doc. It doesn't matter from whom. As I stated, they are fairly small sized. None of these are downloading correctly (at all). The computer previously worked fine and I changed no settings. The email program is Yahoo. I am accessing them throught he same ISP, and they are the same mailbox. Both machines are running off the same McAfee with the same settings as I stated above as they were both installed by me without changing any settings.

one thing to remember since that pc had xp sp2 on it prior to going to the shop and he put sp3 on it if a system restore was done to a date prior to install of sp3 it can cause major issues, you will end up with a mish mash of both. Back when everyone was doing sp3 installs it was highly recommended not to do a system restore because of that, instead the recommended method was to go to add remove programs and remove it from there. However since you already have sp3 on the pc and the tech did this and you had asked him not to and now you have problems the best and logical thing to do is bring it right back to him and tell him it needs to be fixed, He apparently did not check to make sure everything was working properly. You paid for it to be working he should make it good. If you can have it with sp3 you definitely should have it with sp3 so you can continue to get your windows updates on it. Thats my thought anyway.
