Go to Start>Networking Connections, right-click the connection and choose properties and uncheck "Show icon in notification area when connected".

Go to start
Click on Run
Type in box msconfig
Click on Start tab
Remove check mark on Wireless Lan
Click ok
Reboot

It shouldn't show up on your taskbar now

I don't see networking connections under start..only "connect to" & nothing there has a check mark.

How bout Start then control panel, for network connections I wound not do the msconfig deal.

Zep I did the msconfig thing but also did what it said to do to undo it. Sure hope I didn't mess up. I see 2 things in network connections but which do I click properties?

Sugar, you did the msconfig correctly, after you reboot put a check mark where it says don't show this message and hit ok. It won't show that message anymore when you log on.

Don't mess with any other tabs.

There are several ways to do the same thing in Windows. It just depends on how and who you learn from. The recommended Microsoft way is not use MSconfig except for troubleshooting. The preferred method to stop a service is as follows:
Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in "services.msc" (without the quotes)
Click OK
On the services screen that pops up, scroll down to "Wireless Zero Configuration"
Highlight it, and double-click your left mouse button.
A Properties box should pop-up.
In service status box, click stop.
Above it, open the drop down tab next to startup type and select disabled, click ok
Close the services box.
No reboot is required and the taskbar icon should disappear.

I don't see a wireless connection there. Is that all that is on the network connections page?

As far as msconfig, any time you edit the startup, you will be using 'Selective Startup' and if you don't place a check next to 'Don't show this message or launch system configuration ....' you will end up in System Configuration Utility again. Doesn't mean that anything is wrong, it's by design. I was thinking we had assisted you with msconfig in the past, but maybe it was someone else.

Have you scanned for Malware yet?

I may be wrong but it sure looks like a ZD program that is minimized.
Perhaps open it and find its configurations ?

or if you really truely know what it is,, and dont/wont need it ever... Unistall it maybe from Add/Remove .

I'm wondering if it is bluetooth or IR wireless onboard lan or wifi nic ?

The Icon wasn't always in the taskbar after a reboot...That is one thing I didn't understand..well I followed marooma advice.. it wasn't there (of course not) but is disabled now. I hope that is the last of it.. should be..

Yes PKponder I scan with MWB, SuperantiSpyware regularly. I also have spywareblaster, ZA & AVG. I keep them updated too. I don't have a lot of computer knowledge & don't want a virus. I bother people here enough without getting one. If I do I know where to go for help (smile)

This was a used computer so that explains how it got there.
It is a better computer than I could have afforded new. It has served me well. The problems I have had were created by me. That is why I am afraid to do too much on my own.
I see in add & remove where it is. I'm gonna just totally remove that too.
