I will be in Mobile on 1/29/10 for dr's appt,can anyone rec a good restaurant in mobile for lunch.I will have a few hours afther the dr's appt to shop and eat befor heading back to jackson,which is 3 1/2-4 hr drive.TIA

Somewhat off-topic.

I traveled to Perdue Hill Alabama. I did not realized that it was a "dry" town. We had to drive to Florida for drinks.

May I suggest that you purchase 3 gallon plants, which should be available in any garden center or nursery in your location? Wax myrtles grow sooooo quickly that you won't be sorry you did it. It might be more difficult to find the larger sizes.

climbing hydrangeas in mobile, alabama

It's been two months since i planted the climbing hydrangeas. They were about seven inches in height. Most have lost their leaves but two of them have sprouted more branches. One is growing on the northwest wall and one is doing okay in the shady north wall of the house. Will keep you posted. It will probably take years before they really climb and cover the walls but I think it is worth the wait.

I've had an active bluebird nesting box here in Mobile, Alabama for 5 years. One was completed this year early in February. This is the earliest eggs were laid in this box. The chicks in early March have hatched and are being fed by both parents. I expect the chicks to fledge the end of this month. Hopefully there will be a couple more hatchings.

Shelley, also check Chowhound.com. There are some serious foodies there and they don't mince words about their opinion of local restaurants. DH has had good luck finding good places on the road via that site. You can also get an idea of the menu and pricing.

Oh yeah and yelp too. And tripadvisor. They rank restaurants and they have a great forum system.
