Ooohhh, it's exciting to see all the action here. I had a tile guy come out today and we discussed the logistics of a wet room, including the effect it will have on the tub plumbing (out of the wall instead of up through the floor to minimize leaks). But here are some details: The room is long and narrow, 7 feet wide by almost eleven feet long. Single door at the narrow end, no windows, and it must also house the stackable washer and dryer. I will try to get a plan posted if there is any interest, but it is a pretty basic rectangle. Because the room is small I like the visual of a free standing tub, with placement planned across the far end of the room. Sink and toilet will be on opposite walls in the next section, and the washer and dryer snug in the corner next to the door. Cloudbase, the real reason for the tub is that there is no tub in the master or anywhere on the main floor, and I want a tub I can soak in. Its use as a shower will be limited to house guests. So they will still have a bit of a struggle getting in and out...or I can share my shower, if the guests are old enough or decrepit enough :) Writersblock, I have seen a similar arrangement to that and agree, it is a nice way to combine the two. Unfortunately there just isn't room in this room. If I have to, I can bite the bullet and put a more shower-friendly arrangement across that end of the bathroom. But I have no reason (no real time pressure, and other than the counter top that impales every person who walks in the room there are no immediate structural issues) to not think about all the possible ways to solve the problems of the tiny bathroom. So while the wet room may ultimately not be the way we go I thought I would toss it out there to see what people had done/not done.

Hi Pup, I'm glad you found that company that makes teak benches. I have the smaller bench that has folding legs. The reason I was so concerned about staining is that my plastic/metal chair would stain my porclein tile. I had to use Barkeeper's friend to get the stains out. I knew I couldn't do that with marble but still needed a chair or bench in the shower. Now I'm in a remodeled townhouse and my bathroom has Carrera Marble on the floors in the bathroom, shower, and on the walls. Everyone that sees my bathroom loves it. I also have a honed Carrera vanity top. It is very elegant and I love my bathroom too. But.....you need to make sure it is sealed well with a good sealer. My installer used TileLab (from HD) because I thought it had a 20 year warranty. I was wrong and the technical assistance person at TileLab recommends sealing every 6 months. The warranty is just for how good the product will remain in the container (talk about false advertising!). Very few good sealers require sealing that often. It is very important for you to seal your marble well or it will stain (some etching is inevitable). I am now going to reseal my marble with Aquamix Sealer (the solvent based). Bill V, Kevin or other stone experts on this forum can recommend a good sealer for marble when you are ready. Good luck with your project. I'm sure it will be beautiful! Karen

I have a free-standing claw foot tub. I use two clear liners and two matching decorative curtains on the circular rod. There's a small gap at the back of the tub, but between the water pressure and the design of the shower head, water never gets back that far. Maybe our tub is smaller, because there really isn't room for a third curtain. You also want to make sure that when the curtains are pulled completely closed, they aren't gathered up. Those gathers make a great place for mold and mildew. Older bathrooms tend not to have exhaust fans. We just criss-crossed the shower curtains rings at the edge of the curtains where they meet over the rod for the shower head and they don't come apart. Or you could put the last hole of one shower curtain and the first hole on the next shower curtain on the same hook, to save sewing. I'm just thinking that two or three shower curtains sewn together will be awkward to put up and take down, as well as wash. Also, if budget is a consideration, you could use liners around the whole tub, and a decorative shower curtain only along one side

OMG, yes I remember @homepro01! but I forgot I thought of getting one for DH for XMAS. I did not order one, but I took a GOOD look. I liked what I saw. I will have to consider that still. Thanks for the shopping reminder!!! I think that sprayer link was on the rotary iron thread I started. I rotary iron about every 2 weeks. It takes a while to generate enough ironing to sit down and turn it on. I still am liking it. It is relaxing. This shower that I have, is old. I am thinking it would be nice to replace, but DH would have a fit that I got rid of a perfectly good shower stall. Never mind the hole that is duct taped so water doesn't fly out. The hole was put in to accept the dehumidifier hose that we have used over the years. The newer dehumidifier needed a different hole :/ I could put the dehumidifier over by the floor drain on the other side of the basement, I believe, and not use the shower drain for the hose. The location of the dehumidifier near the shower got started when DH parents lived in this house and never changed over the 25 years that we have lived here. I will have to take a look for electrical outlet accessibility near the floor drain.
