Printer Problem---Quick Help Needed

I have worked on a printer problem all weekend. It has been trouble free for 3 1/2 yrs. Now, it isn't getting the signal to print. I have worked through trouble shooter and even un-installed and reinstalled the whole thing. The printer is an HP 3300 series all-in-one.

Not even sure that it's the printer.. it will print copies just fine.

Could it be the router? I am set up wireless, the router is also 3 1/2 yrs old. So is the cable modem. I have tried to print from both this Dell desktop and my new laptop (win7) neither will print and they both were doing fine a week ago.

But....the cable signal keeps getting dropped. I have had to unplug the router and then replug it in 1-3 times a day for the last few weeks.

So now I have to wonder if it's a router going bad????

Desktop is a 3 1/2 yr old Dell XPS, there plenty of memory. Running XP3 and IE8. The router is a Linsys G.

I thought I'd post here first but I am ready to go buy a new router today and also buy my own modem (I currently have one from Charter)..seems silly to pay a monthly fee.

If I do buy a new router...does it need to be another G or would the newer N type be better?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Nancy
