Missing Wireless Icon

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to help my sister with a problem she's having with her computer. The computer is a shop-built desktop with Windows XP, SP2. She had been using a Belkin router with no problems, but recently had to change routers.(She's using a router because the internet feed comes in through the wall downstairs and her computer is upstairs.)

She bought a Linksys WRT54G which is set up and is working fine...we tested it with my laptop. The problem is that after installing the Linksys router, the icon for her wireless connection disappeared from her Network Connections folder. The only thing she has there now is her dial-up icon and the LAN. She connects to the internet via a local ISP, satellite. We've searched the internet for possible causes and solutions, to no avail.

We've tried uninstalling her internal wireless Ethernet adapter in the Device Manager and rebooting, but that didn't help. When we check the adapter, it says the device is working properly.

Please let me know if I haven't provided enough information and thank you for any help you can give us.
